News / Re: Digital download progs in 2000AD shop
09 February, 2011, 09:18:06 AM
Why not same day delivery, like more publishers in the US are doing?  If my daughter can buy digital copies of her Betty & Veronica comics the same day the print version is released, why can't we get 2000 AD the same day?

2000 AD went from industry leader in digital comics to clunky relic almost instantly.  It's unreliable and the customer service is nonexistent.  Today's Wednesday, and prog 1719 should be up at Clickwheel right now for me to buy it... and it isn't.  Again.

This won't be anybody's pick for favorite Case File, but "Almighty Dredd" is really funny.  That newbie judge snarking at Dredd, "I always wondered what happened to the citizens you iced, Joe!" is one of my favorite one-off characters.

Off Topic / Re: Superbowl primer, anyone?

Former Bulldog Hines Ward plays, and plays really well, for the Steelers, so I hope he does well, and the Packers came to Atlanta and just embarrassed us in our house in the second round of the playoffs so I suppose I should hate them, but really, this is the battle of who can care less for me.  I'm looking forward to the Captain America trailer, and the half-dressed hotties promised on the episode of Glee afterward should be something worth looking forward to.  I suppose we'll get a pizza or something.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for Zombo myself.  Oddly, we got Leviathan the week that we were supposed to, but Chopper was the one that shipped late.  No sign of the Dec prog pack (1713-1714) either.

Wasn't Brit-Cit Brute brought into Calhab Justice? I can't remember what happens but i seem to remember Newt being mentioned in a Jonni Kiss story.

He was, and he was killed.  Then the artist, Nick Percival, decided that he would rather Newt have been killed by Jonni Kiss instead, so he drew Newt's badge as part of Kiss's collection.

I can't imagine why anybody concerns themselves with unraveling the ABC Warriors / Nemesis timeline when this critical continuity error has yet to be sorted.

Other Reviews / Meltdown Man reviewed over at my site
02 February, 2011, 11:04:40 AM

The Nerve Center is on a roll lately, isn't it, guys?  The latest 2000 AD book to make it to my desk is Meltdown Man and it's terrific, even better than I remembered it.  This is definitely a book everybody needs to pick up!  Click the image to pop over to my site and read about it.

Film & TV / Re: Dealbreakers, and the lack of logic.

That's f'ing weird - I too saw The Blues Brothers for the first time in a double bill with Party Party, at a ghastly sponsored 24hr fast in a youth club (cheers for that Geldof). I wasn't aware anyone else on Earth even remembered Party Party.  Happily this was followed later in the evening by Cat People (1982 remake).  Mmmm, Kinskitastic.

I think Elvis Costello fans remember that there was a film called Party Party, because he did the theme tune and that is one stupidly hard song to get a hold of.

Actually I quite like Stickleback, not sure how that one slipped in there. And I don't dislike Savage, but I do feel it's been a case of diminishing returns since Adlard left. I'll be happy to be proved wrong this time, though.

I'll agree that books 4 and 5 were underwhelming - personally, I couldn't understand what was happening in much of book 4 - but I thought that last story was just terrific, with Goddard's art at an all-time high.  Those two episodes on Eel Pie Island were really among my favorite Mills work over the last several years.  I hope that book seven starts soon.

We're only up to prog 1717 on Clickwheel, so I have not seen the clue that has everybody speculating about the suggested end of the Edge-verse, but I certainly hope that you're all wrong, wrong, wrong, on account of how much I enjoy Stickleback and Ampney Crucis.

AFAIK this is definitely the final series. It's supposed to be quite a long series though (15+ episodes), but as it's not showing up in the Previews threads I suspect that it may be taking a break halfway through.

Just caught this.  Interesting point... the most recent solicits that I posted start with prog 1728.  If Shakara runs without a break, episode 14 will be in prog 1727.

Boy, we've heard that before.

I think that the known imminent conclusions are Shakara and Necrophim, with Dante following later in the year.  As for what might replace them all... well, if Indigo Prime goes over well, that can run and run with its giant cast of characters and realities.  I do hope that, with twenty-odd slots a year freed up by the conclusion of Dante, something will get the chance to appear more frequently.  Damnation Station and Red Seas would certainly benefit from having more opportunities to appear each year.

I remain very pleased with the forthcoming thrill list, actually.  The only thing on the forthcoming list that doesn't sound great to me is Sin Dex.  And I'm really looking forward to the Samantha Slade floppies.  I just reread Stim! recently and it was terrific and silly, even better than I remembered.  (Furzt Case was a pretty big disappointment, though, I'll admit.)

It's not; Robo-KEEF confirmed in his recent ECBT podcast that there are two more books - the tenth is out in a couple of months, and the eleventh will finish the series.

Thanks, guys.  I miss it, too, but I sure as heck don't miss trying to find something new to write about it every week.  I'm happier just rereading (into 2006 now) without deadlines!
