(I also recall HH2 being responsible for possibly the worst piece of dialogue in 2000 AD—something about a 'quintuple XXX-rated movie' or some such.)

"Hey! What the hell happened to our quintuple X-rated movie?!"  Bliss.  You just want to gently sock Michael Fleisher on the arm and go "Ooooh!  You're edgy!"

Oh!  Sorry, I must have misunderstood Keef Monkey's comment in the 1714 review thread.  He said that he'd wished Slaine had finished along with the other strips, so I figured it was finishing in P2011.  (I really have OCD about page and episode counts.  I'm not as detailed as Buttonman and his letters, but if anybody wants to know what the series with the 37th most episodes is, I'm yer man.)

(It's a two-way tie between Meltdown Man and Armitage with 50 each.)

Pat really writes for the trade, doesn't he?  Each installment in The Books of Invasion was 48 pages for a 96-page book.  If Slaine the Wanderer follows this template, then, like Radiator says, it will have the four 24-pg stories The Smuggler, The Gong Beater, The Exorcist and The Mercenary (assuming that The Mercenary wraps up with a 12-page episode in Prog 2011).

That there's a pretty darn good-looking picture.

So over at the Bookshelf, I find that I don't have very many nice things to say about the Dredd Case Files as we get pretty comfortable in the Garth Ennis era, but there are still a highlight or two, and Rebellion did their usual excellent job with reproduction and presentation.  Check it out by clicking the image and spread the word!

I'm rereading "Stim!" currently.  That really is some terrific Robo-Hunter, that story.  Especially when Hoagy tries not to blow his cover about being interested in drugs.  I guess the floppy will have the first three stories?  I'll be sure to send Tharg a thank you note for it.

Several of you have mentioned seeing ads for prog 1 on TV.  I'm curious about that... I've seen the ad on YouTube, but where did it run?  What were you watching when you saw the ad?  Was it during some afternoon kids' shows on ITV?  The Tomorrow People was still on in February '77, wasn't it?  Were there 2000 AD commercials on during that?

is there a place to download the earlier podcasts please ?

in america we are still awaiting prog 1700, so everything is a big tease

The prog pack with # 1700-1704 shipped on Nov 10, I'm afraid.

But don't feel bad; my shop didn't receive whichever pack it was that had # 1685 in it.

Drop Steve a line; he might let you know more details, but didn't want everything getting out, especially via my Reprint This! site.

Short version is that he fulfilled preorders with printers' proofs but wasn't able to put it or the other book, that Something Patrol, on general release after all, and the third and fourth books in the proposed line were axed early on.  Hence the (hopefully temporary) closure of his Bear Alley Books and its attendant website.  (Bear Alley itself is still up and wonderful, but the books blog was closed.)   :(

Well, there are two Red Seas books.  There was the hardback 60-odd page one that reprinted the first story, and the Rainbow Spine paperback 150-odd page one that did the first three stories.
