Prog / Re: Prog 1480: Fight or Flight.......

"I think we better agree to disagree before my knickers get in so much of a twist that they cut off circulation and my legs drop off."

Ouch! I agree because I'm wearing boxers with a button up fly.

"I'm off now to the stormy doldrums of the wildly becalmed ocean to try and capture and free a giantly miniscule fish mammal from the teethy toothless maw of the most angrily timid creature of the shallow depths"

:-) now that's funny!

Have fun fishing in the tempestuous placidity of the pond.

"Which I would respect, but for the fact that you can't seem to decide what your opinion is. Do you find it "middle of the road" and "utterly banal" or "dire" and "inherantly shite"? Aren't the two sets of terms mutually exclusive?"

No. B&K is a middle of the road banal story and is also an inherantly shite and dire story. What's wrong with that? Why can't something that is middle of the road be shite if I consider the term 'middle of the road' to be shite, or in this case inherantly shite which means I consider it to be 'consistantly not very good' every week. So to equate middle of the road + banal = inherantly shite which in turn means it's dire. 2000AD should be creating far better stories than B&K and it falls below the high standard I expect from the prog every week.

"Of course it's no surprise that you should get mixed up - as you didn't bother to actually read it."

No I didn't read it and I have already explained why in my last post. I'm not 'mixed up' I don't like the story it's not funny.

"Get your bollocks out of your arse and have the nerve to actually name what you're willing to give such a huge slagging off to. "

Hey - Bec and Kawl and I can't get my bollocks into my arse.

"How insulting - if you think any reader who likes Bec & Kawl is part of a "middle of the road biege mass", then why are you bothering to deign us with your opinion in the first place? It's not as if we'd have the superior brain capacity to understand where you're coming from, is it?"

IMO - Bec and Kawl is mundane middle of the road humour. It's not outstanding, neither is it completely rubbish other people like it, so therefore I consider it 'middle of the road'. My apologies for 'labelling' you with a monicker of "middle of the road biege mass" obviously you feel very strongly towards this, but if 2000AD insists on having a 'funny' strip it should be one that breaks the mould and is unique, intelligent and above funny - Bec and Kawl is not funny.

"I'm not sure where you're going with your double negatives ("never deliberately didn't") but are you saying that you didn't bother to read it and are still passing an opinion on it?"

I have read the last three episodes and didn't read this one because I could not face it. It bores me. Therefore I posted to give my opnion on the latest prog and to say I was disappointed in the fact that it is one of the first progs in a very long time that I have not wanted to read one of the strips. I have read all the other B&K stories and my opinion of B&K is based on these stories. B&K is not funny.

"And, if you did read it, why has it spoilt the prog for you? Four good stories against (in your opinion) one bad story should make for quite a positive experience, shouldn't it? "

A good prog should be one where ALL the stories are great or at least readable, so no it is NOT a positive experience beacuse B&K is not funny and i cannot read it.

"And please, the plaudits you give to other stories are ridiculously one-sided. Droid Life is hit and miss (Dr' Who's mucus?), Robert Crumb is (amongst other things) someone who likes drawing tits, Thrud the Barbarian was funny when I was 15 (and even then, it got tired fast) and Tank Girl isn't exactly high brow - a sexy chick in a tank with a kangaroo boyfriend. The End."

Droid Life - is funny, it makes me laugh and compared to B&K it's far, far funnier. It's not hit and miss, yes there have been a couple of crap ones but it's not consistently crap like B&K is.

Robert Crumb - is funnier than B&K, it's satirical, poignant, bold, interesting and so what if he draws tits and ass. It's funny. B&K is not.

Thrud the Barbarian - OK yeh, it's not really hi-brow is it. But it's funny makes me laugh. B&K is not funny.

Tank Girl - A sexy chick, in a tank with a Kangaroo boyfriend. How original is that? Very. B&K is not. Also Tank Girl is not just about a 'sexy chick, in a tank with a kangaroo' the stories have underlying themes that address issues such as war, violence, loneliness, friendship and love which in turn add more depth to the stories than anything B&K has ever tried to do because guess what - B&K is not funny.

This is just my opinion. When someone posts to say they think B&K is great then that's their opinion.

Dredd - OK not bad, like the script and Yeowell always puts a twist on Dredd. Bit of a ropey pic though of him riding across the cars. - 4

Future Shock - Predictable but well done, not bad - 3

86's - brilliant! Love the art esp the first page splash. Really sexy deep space stuff, this is going to be cool - feel it in my bones. My only gripe is the fighters - they're a bit Battlestar Galactica, but very WWII dogfight. - 5

ABC Warriors - Again getting better and a belter of an episode, this is really heating up now - 3

That strip - Now this is where the disappointment kicks in. I think the last time I never deliberately didn't read a story because I knew it was going to be inherantly shite was somewhere back in the anals of Big Dave (see what I did there and yes I know I've prob. spelt inherantly wrong). But that strip which should not be named is utterly banal trash. Don't get me wrong I love humour in comics: Tank Girl (the early stuff) was funny, weird, and touching, Thrud the Barbarian makes me chortle, Dredd has laugh out load moments, I love Robert Crumb, Droid Life is pure genius etc. etc. But this, this is 'My Family' created for 2000AD, it appeals to the middle of the road biege masses, but really let's have something a tadge more intelligent, funny, poignant and a bit more demanding of the readership - come on - it's dire and has spoilt this prog for me - no more please!!!!!

Friend of mine when he was 14, was yanked so hard (by a girl called Vicky Leadbeater of all names) that the piece of skin that attaches your japs eye to your foreskin snapped!!!

Arts' post reminded me of a rather disturbing past experience in a pub when ripped jeans were fashionable (we're taking late 80's early nineties here youngsters) and I was sat on a stool chatting to some friends when it was pointed out that the eggs had rolled out of the box and if I wasn't careful the whole breakfast might slide off the plate...

...anyone else had an embaressing experience like this?*

I've also woken up with my bare arse resting on a windowsill exposed to the whole street and also offered cigarettes from a pack of 6 Mates Condoms (rem when they were discreatly paackged to look like a pack of fags in your pocket?)

Banners - the yellow pages is actually printed yellow, the paper is white, yet the fat cash grabbing toads charge more for a white backed ad. Done loads in the past, best way is to provide a proof with the advert that shows the white ad sitting on a yellow background - write clearly indicating this and don't use too many big words because their artists are really monkeys with PC's

Have fun!

"Now I'm confused, do you want him to use layers or not, or did you mean don't use channels?"

Sorry should have been '????' rather than exclamation.

Apologies for the misinterpretation. What I meant about the layers thing was that it's then very easy to alter the individual colours within the image, because they are on layers, to experiment with different palettes after you have laid the colours highlights and shade down.

Radiator it may also be a good idea to look at colour theory as well and how colours affect the mood of the reader. Re: your computer slowing down when you use layers what kind of system are you running, which version of Pshop and how are your scratch disks configured?
