That's one of the big reservations I had about the film from the beginning and still do even though the film itself was worth watching.   There'd still be loads of more advanced vehicles about in the future world of Dredd even if there was a load of nuclear explosions or EMP.

So the only consequence of a nuclear war is the EMP? I think it's far more likely that in a future of scarce resources, those in charge - i.e. the Judges - and social elites monopolize the better tech while everyone else is left to fend for themselves with what can be scavenged or built with inferior and scarce materials. Don't forget the Lawmasters and the 'spy in the sky' drones are clearly higher tech, while the Hall of Justice is a cool, gleaming building bristling with technology.

Not unlike the country it was filmed in, DREDD showed a painfully unequal society that is crumbling from the ground up. Which is why I loved every minute.

Fair points.   If we do ever get a sequel though I'd like to see Mega City expanded upon with robots, flying cars and those roads snaking high between the skyscrapers.    They're an integral part of M.C. so let's see em.

Not in the slum sectors of the city.

I suppose that could be possible but you still see modern up to date cars in real slum parts of cities around the world.

EMP only affects that which is switched on at the time of the blast. It doesn't suddenly throw a societies tech' level back to the stone age. Older, more reliable vehicles would be prevalant for practical/mechanical and economical reasons.

I'm not getting good vibes about the box office from this thread.   I saw it last week and even though I didn't think it was as good as some were making out before it's still well worth a watch (with certain reservations I still have about it).

It certainly doesn't deserve to flop.   Is it really bombing or could dvd sales make up for bad box office?

Bugger....trust me to miss the Q&A.   Might have asked a question or two but interesting to read his replies.

Here's an idea ABCwarBOT, why don't you start a thread about why you think everything is shite and we can enjoy reading that.
How many times do we have to go over old ground. Have you worn one of the helmets, I doubt it!
Have you worn a respirator in a tactical situation, I think not!
So let me say it one final time for you and you alone.
The respirator has a more restrictive view by a large margin compared to one of the helmets and you know the rest.

So like I say, start your own thread about why the helmet is not quite what you would like. I don't want to seem like I'm having a go but this thread is for us lot to come up with ideas about, as the title says. KEEPING DREDD IN THE PUBLIC EYE!

Bye the way folks, I have emailed The Peach Tree with reference me going along in uniform and I await their reply ;)

Well I don't think everything about this film is shite and I've made that clear in the past.   I also don't think the helmet's shite either.........just sayin if there's a sequel I'd make the cross smaller.     Have you got a picture of that respirator by any chance?  Be interesting to see it anyway.

If you should accept the badge of SCOJO, you could redeem the name.

What about SCOJOBOT? :)

It's good (in one way anyway) that they made the helmet like the comic one but here's my problem with it.   The cross seems to be right in front of Urbans vision and I think they should have made the actual cross smaller and thinner.    They've altered the rest of the uniform (some parts good...some parts not so good) to be more practical but they could have made the helmet faithful to the comic and practical if they'd made the cross smaller.

Doesn't the fact that he managed to perform through the entire film prove that he could see reasonably OK?

I think it's a totally different thing performing in a film studio to taking on baddies in real life.   Still it's too late to change it now but if there's a sequel I'd definitely make the cross less intrusive.

So from the footage you've seen so far and the positive reviews

What do YOU reckon Scojo?

Oh for bums sake :'(.    Can someone else please inform Monsieur Beeks that I'm not Scojo?   Thank you ta!

Funny how Empire give the Raid 5 stars, and Dredd 3, even though he is saying they are too similar?

Chris Hewitt is famous for being the man who once gave Attack of the Clones 5 stars.

QuoteI suppose that all depends on whether different people reviewd AOTC.

Its smart to reserve judgement, but This particular reviewer has made mistakes in the past.  The constant comparisons to the Raid are quite blind-sighted being that he  is aware all the similarities are coincidental. Its all down to personal taste.

Other than that it is a positive review just like most them are so far.

Actually.....seing as this started filming before the Raid....maybe he should be saying the Raid is similar to Dredd?     Especially as the script was leaked a year or two back.

From all the hoop-la I was expecting a 4.......but on a positive Empire gave the Raid a 5 and I've read that Dredd was better, opinions are different but the general buzz is that Dredds good to excellent depending on where you look.I've not read one review that slates it.

Empire gave Attack of the Clones 5.......they are wrong! granted they reduced it on DVD but still.....
Never forget!

I suppose that all depends on whether different people reviewd AOTC.
People are entitled to change their views of course but I get the impression that some reviewers just go along with trends and if a film seems to become unpopular or maligned they'll just go along with the flow.

I still have reservations about Dredd but at least it's getting some fairly positive reviews so far.

I've seen a few people mention this Raid film and it's similarities to Dredd.   I've also read people saying they've seen the script for Dredd.   Which started filming first and why wasn't the script kept secret?

They don't accept his scripts

Well if that's true then he obviously could have an agenda and is obviously known to certain people in the Dredd/2000AD world......there again maybe his concerns about the film are genuine.

If his name is public knowledge and I stress it's not breaking any privacy laws (and any other laws in general ) etc then let's find out who he is.   Let's have a name and face.

That half hour Spiderman trailer sounds ridiculous.

It's not official, it's a fan edit of all available footage. The cinema trailer is 6 minutes though.

At least it's not the studios then.  Mind youthat's still a lot of footage knocking about.
Maybe even 6 minutes is a bit long too.
