I reckon even 10 year olds would figure out
that moloch was shagging Niamh. Im glad some one used the word 'rape', and readership age aside its still a shocking thing to read in a comic.

In this case it was pertinent to the plot and seems to be crucial in propelling slaines story forward, so Ive no problem with it.

But I betcha if the tabloids caught onto this one a witchunt would follow.

Off Topic / Writer Vs Fanboy

Hey. Just read a ranting review of the Sci-Fi film 'The Core' by some fanboy. Then I read an online response by the films writer which although an equally mad rant is quite lucid and frankly hilarious. Check it out on the links below -

Thought the first reference to the Yeti's was a nice touch, but felt it became a bit overused.
Homages are meant to be subtle, no need to ram the point home.

Why did Andy and John Co-wrote this cool story?
I would have thought Wagner was well capable of
doing it himself.

Did Andy do the legwork in setting up the cross over and insist on getting in on the writing gig, cos the reprints would help his big push in the states? Was john happy to share?
Or was it in fact a happy collaberation.

Enquiring minds want to know.

Scarlet Traces has been extremely well received in the pages of the meg. Since the cool beans web site is now a dead duck, is the Megazine Editor considering commissioning a new series?

Forbidden Planet is a chain store, so like Virgin etc I suppose its inevitable that your sometimes going to get p*ssed off retail workers on minimum wage rather than happy geeks who love comics.

For the record my local comic store is Forbidden Planet in Edinburgh, and the staff there are a pleasant, friendly bunch.

If its on the PC I imagine it will be on the XBox shortly therafter - not a lot of messing about required to punt it out.

I recently bought an XBox against the advice of the shop owner who said the PS2 had a lot more games (of course - its been out nearly 1 1/2 years more) and that a lot of developers are boycotting the XBox cos they don't like Bill gates which in bollix, developers ain't going to miss out on some profit cos of moral principle.

Personally I reckon it was cos the PS2 cost ?50 more and would improve their markup.

Though John smith may in fact have a fine collection of home brews, I meant Tales, not ales.

Millers work classics?!? Silo was a generic patchwork of ripped of story ideas (exhibit A - main characters bleeding feet after running barefoot through broken glass - Die Hard any one).

Morrison is certainly a bit of an egotistical twat, but hes written a lot of interesting stuff.

Smith, despite his liking of purple streams of conciousness dialogue, has also produced numerous excellent and thoughful ales.

Miller likes lumping himself in with these guys, but I reckon his just riding their coat tales.
All big ideas with poor execution.

The first fairly adult content I can really remember was a shagging scene in John Smiths 'Revere'

The first time I was actually surprised by a profanity (only cos it appeared in a comic book mind)was Button Man book three when some assasin
declared that FBI standed for "fukin bad"...something or other.

Suggestions / More self contained stories.
08 November, 2002, 07:54:47 PM
Some one made the point that the recent short contained stories within 2000AD are a refreshing change from series and characters constantly dragged out for yet another adventure.

I agree. The best thing about The Scrap was that it had a definite beginning, middle and end.
The characters and settings were drastically effected by unfolding events, and were much more entertaining because of it.

One of the best current series in 2000AD is Nikoli Dante. The overreaching plot has been mapped out. Again his world and character have been significantly effected by events. While there are a lot of filler episodes, the story is going somewhere definite. In this case, when it finally does end, we will have to  accept that it is over, and that we enjoyed the ride. This would be preferable to trying to bring him back in an all new direction, or re-imagining the concept.

In any event, how about some more mini/maxi series. Insisting that series come to a natural end will free up writer creativity.

General / Rogues back whether you like it or not.

Which judging by the recent input page he is.
The editor has already bought and paid for additional series ,presumably being prepared by the artist right now.

Thats probably why "tharg" is insisting the retro style tales were a success despite the numerous protests of readers in the letters page.

Personally I'll reserve judgement until I read the next Rogue and Strontium Dog strips, in the hope that they will provide something new and interesting rather than old school rewrites.

The biggest criticism that anyone had of Men In Black 2 was that it a lazy reworking of the original, and brought nothing new to the series.

Suggestions / Megazine Reprints
01 November, 2002, 07:08:01 PM
What about reprinting the strontium dog story 'the final solution' in which Johhny kicks the bucket.

No more reprints of relatively recent things like Preacher or Hellboy. Most comic fans will probably have the originals or collected editions.

How about original stuff from Toxic or Crisis? Both shortlived comic serials put together by creators familiar to 2000AD readers.
