Film & TV / Re: Inglourious Basterds

I went to see it at the cinema, but only recently bought the dvd. I was let down by the film in the cinema with stand out moments being the begining with christoph waltz' performance, and the david bowie soundtrack over that particular scene where she's getting ready to take out her revenge. I hated the fact teenage kids were laughing out loud at every hit of onscreen violence in the movie.
I did enjoy the film more rewatching it more on DVD - I think Tarantino is becoming too self-indulgent jeopardising the quality of the product. I liked Pitt's portrayal of Aldo Raine, but the performance was inconsistant through the entirety of the movie, as for other dubious casting i.e. Eli Roth, I was dissapointed.
I think Tarantino should stop selfindulging himself in homage and so on, and maybe A) adapt again e.g. elmore leonard and B) work with his older actors again e.g. Harvey keitel, Sam l. jackson etc

I don't wish to cause offence, this is just personal preference of course. But that 79' cover looks great - The cover for the latest PROG doesn't. Again personal preference; although the plot of the dredd strip appealed to me, the technicolours put me off, it reminded me of a cheap sonic the hedgehog strip I used to read as a kid lol
Why shouldn't we have technicolour covers. If they attract the younger generation then that is a good thing for the prog. It may be mainly aimed at the more mature generation but there isn't an age limit to the prog and the more youngsters that are enticed to read 2000ad the better to secure it's future when we are all dead and buried.
Cover artist and story artist were two different artists by the way. Go over the Pete Wells blog to see the process Disreli went through on producing that wonderful cover, it may change your mind.

It isn't a McCarthy cover this time round by the way. it's Disraeli.

Personally I'm not a fan of his work here, but his stuff on Rogan Gosh and fever is a thing of beauty. It's a lot like the McMahon return to Dredd with Howler, polarising. Every style has it's credits, and I'd rather dislike something for being different than it be so similar to everything else I don't even notice or care about it.

For a long time that was DC's biggest problem for me, the artistic talent they were picking up or developing was so blande, it let down a lot of strong writers and good characters.

Cheers,
Lee

nah, I'm ignorant to the process, I just dislike the inside artwork on the Dredd strip this prog, the cover is decent though. I keep reiterating that this is my personal opinion, because objectively you're completely right in that the new Prog's probably drawing in kids and new younger readers. I always like the continuity of representing Dredd's actual age these days as well, he's seventy odd isn't he? I don't like it when that is overlooked, but thats just an overall comment on recent PROGs and again, I'd like to reiterate that I'm being penickity lol

Welcome to the board / Big fan of Dredd!

Hi all, I'm a big fan of Judge Dredd and 2000Ad, collected a few as a kid, and now in my mid 20s and I've into Dirty Harry films and 1966 Batman, and my love for Judge Dredd has been reinvigorated. As happened with Watchmen - as soon as I had read the graphic novel, a movie was announced. I get reading Judge Dredd again, and they announce a new Dredd film with Karl Urban in it! I can't wait.
I look forward to posting with you guys. I'm rather opinionated, but always open minded and accepting of other's opinions too. I'm slowly working my way through all the case files volumes so I'm not fully versed in all things Dredd but I'm collecting the PROGS week by week as well as the megazine when its out.

Who's doing the 'multi-coloured' Judge Dredd strips in the recent PROGS? I'm all for equal opportunities, and if it's a kid drawing and colouring them, then that's fine. Personally I'd rather have the gritty grown up black and white style PROGS of early Dredd!!! - love Slaine the mercenary though.
