Dredd Well bit of a surprise there  :o. Not PJ's death but the lack of explanation ref the dark voice. Expect there will be an epilogue next week like others have said  then perhaps a 'Wot I did to esceep the dark judges' for prog 2000. Hope so anyway, too many unanswered questions.

When did the sisters bring back Death remind me.

Cover Superb. Cliff Robinson a class act  :P

Dredd Hugely enjoyable. The undercover judge theory for Vienna seems the most likely. Time for PJ to be killed off methinks, he's had a fantastic run but having big characters killed off is part of what makes 2000ad great. How he escaped the Dark Judges need to be explained which is where the 'dark voice' comes in I suspect (just how is a real puzzler as it doesn't remotely sound like a DJ). Enjoying the mystery and how this will all pan out.

The rest of the prog fairs well, Jaegir and Outlier are grittily entertaining. BUT

Anderson What an unholy mess. It doesn't remotely read or even look like Anderson's character at all.
Anderson looks like an ex-member of Bros after having gone ten rounds with Precious Deadlock, flattening her face. Since when did she wear earrings!? (the covers of 1993 and 1995 don't even look like the same person either).
Her fellow judges (when 'in character' and not under some outside control) come across as mere caricatures, callous to the point of being completely nonsensical.

The plot is full of holes ( a prisoner is swapped and no-one notices, of course :o, a mayor could double the number of judges and decide on future sentencing  powers, what!?? :-\, he was mute 'since' the incident, erm 'before' the incident erm, protect Smart, arrest Smart as a terrorist sympathiser, erm release Smart because erm, protect Smart ).

Sorry, very poor.

From 'Whichever way you look at it. Mega City One is dying' -Hershsey

To ' Lewis......I intend to install you as  chief judge of Texas City............we're equals now'

:o :o :o

Done deal

Did they go into TC and take over? You could read it that way. If so how when they were so weak. If not why would they possibly accept another city choosing their new Chief judge.

A good series but a clear as mud ending.

PS Where did Anderson disappear to in all this -simply said basically she was busy elsewhere.

A mixed bag but a bit of a disappointment on the whole.

Nice cover, if a bit too retro.

Dredd Great art and the usual Xmas hokum spiced with Dredd humbug, enjoyed it.

Absalom Never really got into this so won't comment

Kingdom A welcome return and promising start

Bad Company To save a bit of typing this is a very good summation by Jimbo "Just read Bad Company for now, as an end to the 2015 run of stories. This was exactly what I was afraid of when it started, despite being frequently told 'stick with it,' wait and see', all will become clear'. Four dead characters are alive again and only one ressurection had anything like an attempt at an explanation; meanwhile planet Earth has blinked back into existence and the human race, last seen tottering on the brink of extinction, are numerous and prosperous. Why? How? It feels as though this was supposed to be a tribute to past glories, but all it did was trample on whatever legacy BC had left after the (truly awful) 2002 series."

Just dreadful, one big unholy mess from start to finish.

The Order Nice art but little substance.

ABC Warriors/ Robusters Artwork aside, truly dire and the dialogue cringeworthy throughout.

Sinister Dexter This will never end will it? Please stop,....please

Future Shocks Just plain awful

Strontium Dog Excellent art as usual from Carlos and nice concept  but very strange dialogue making former Mutant Army Generals and street-wise bounty hunters sound like complete imbeciles. Regardless a very welcome return.

Nice to see a double letters page too.

Bad Company  Been very patient with this one as an old favourite, but 9 weeks in and its still an almighty mess. Regardless of the ending, (I'm beyond caring what the surprise is), its been utter garbage, made worse by woeful artwork.

Thankfully such missteps are rare, but this is definitely a big one.

Dreams Of Deadworld Although not perfect this has been a great series with fantastic artwork and an excellent finale.

Deadworld suddenly has a lot more depth to it than ever before and is therefore far more interesting-The revelation of other Dark Judges makes perfect sense and better explains how they were able to destroy a world, it also makes this world an even darker place. Their names are well chosen too (so much better than the poorly chosen names of Phobia and Nausea for the Sisters). Pity they were killed off so quickly, but they sure made an impression.

[/Dreddb]  A very good two-parter -strangely suitably juxtaposed alongside the Deadworld series, Mega City One is disturbingly starting to show similarities. Dredd is doing a good Judge Death impression too, besides his very impressive (if not world shaking) body count, he didn't think twice before shutting down the life support for the old croaks did her and as for Jane Doe (the last surviving member of his team...how familiar a scenario is that?), was there really 'nothing he could do' to save her .....?  ;) :o :D

Great prog, fantastic cover and glad to see the return of Grey area and Strontium Dog but confused by a couple of things.

-Thought all the Stix brothers were dead?

-Is the Black Widower Orlok? (why give that a whole page as well)?

b]Dredd[/b] AT LAST!! In just a few brilliant pages Al Ewing brings the Day of Chaos impact on the citizenry to vivid life in just a few pages.[...] MORE please

Sadly, I think Al said on Twitter that this was likely to be his last Dredd for a while.

Cheers

Not commented on the Meg in a while but thought this issue deserved a post

Dredd AT LAST!! In just a few brilliant pages Al Ewing brings the Day of Chaos impact on the citizenry to vivid life in just a few pages. This has been overlooked/skipped over far too much imho but here is was given the depth it so richly deserves showing the deep psychological impact even on Dredd himself. MORE please. Excellent art (as always) from Ben Wiltshire, a great talent

Angelic Great art and looks very promising (nice touch seeing the 'Garbage God' at his early beginnings)

American Reaper Please stop, please.....Bit of a slap in the face letting an unpopular strip take up 20 pages, the sparse dialogue and scenes could be  done in half that. The art is also overpowered by the photoshoppery.

The New Paper A definite retrograde step which works badly especially on the black and white strips like Demarco where the art on the following page clearly shows through, very distracting and undermines the strip.

Do a search for Map of MC1 or similar. Zen Arcade alongside Mimikeke set out a few moths ago on the unenviable task of popping MC1 pre and post chao and the level of detail that was disturbing (but amazing!).

Wow -Missed this. Kudos to Zen and Mimi.

Still be good if 2000ad could show the new post-chaos lay of the land.

Suggestions / The Dredd Synopsis
10 December, 2014, 05:07:09 PM
'Home to 50 million citizens crammed into gigantic citi-blocks, overcrowding is rife, unemployment endemic and boredom universal'

Post Chaos this doesn't make complete sense. Most of the city must be empty after more than three quarters of the citizens perished, so why is it still crowded?

Sure some areas would be uninhabitable and corralling the populace together to make them easier to police/judge does make sense but this has never been explained.

Why is there mass unemployment? After the Apocalypse War the entire population was drafted to aid in rebuilding, perhaps an even bigger job now. Even after rebuilding was complete and with the city now desperate for cash surely they would make the cits work for their welfare cheques rather than just hand them over?

So with swathes of the Meg clearly empty, please could we have a map of how the city looks now.

PS A follow up of what happened when the Chaos Bug hit abroad, when an agent got stranded in Europe too would be appreciated.

Many thanks
