Danny McBride had a hollow concave section in the top of his head so that trays of snacks and drinks could be clicked into it, and he walked around the ship serving the other crew members biscuits.

This is solid gold!
I really want to see Henry Flint draw it.

I think I prefer your Nemesis in black and white, Filippo - just seems all the more striking in it's simplicity.

Seconded. Lovely piece of work.
All are stunning entries so far

Prog / Re: Prog 2023 - Punch It

Absolute cracker of a prog, from cover to cover.
As TordelBack says, not a panel out of place.

Deadworld in particular has re-gripped me, after losing me a bit on the last series. The PSIs looked particularly stunning, Dave Kendall must be having a whale of a time!

I was kinda hoping he'd fell off the Earth, as his profile of late had been pretty non-existent.

There is a word that perfectly sums up this piece of work, but I will not use it.

I always thought he looked like Sloth from The Goonies in a wig. What with that melty cheek-eye and everything.
But frankly, thats insulting to Sloth.

1st. EAMONN CLAERK - Simpin' Ain't Easy.
2nd. THE LEGENDARY SHARK - What's the "D.R." Stand For?
3rd. CLAVELL - Cheers, Chop.

HM. BAD CITY BLUE - Mighty One.

That was a good read all round, I can see Eamonn's Simping Detective story working particularly well in comic form. Great stuff.

Well, from the suggestions I'd like to say it's Captain Comet, but on reflection its probably some knock-off.
Shame really, I could have claimed to be an Alan Moore fan before he even wrote any MiracleMan...

Also, I promise to never post an image of my bare legs ever again...

General / 80's T-Shirt Identification Help required!

Recently found this old, probably '83, photo of me looking both creepy and utterly lame...

...and is that a Marvel/MiracleMan T-Shirt I'm wearing?

Looked it up online, and I think it may be Young MarvelMan, but I'm just not sure.
It's puzzling me, as I had no idea the character even existed till fairly recently!

Either way, I'm glad I don't wear shorts any more...  :o

I'm seeing a bit of Jake Lynch in your style, the painting of Finny is incredibly good.

I remember Return Of The Jedi and Ghostbusters having intermissions. These were at the Rex in Sheffield. (Now sadly gone)
However, Transformers-The Movie didn't have an intermission. This was at the old 2 screen Odeon in Sheffield. (Now sadly expanded, and shit)

I definately had a tub of ice-cream during the second half of Ghostbusters.

Gah! Why am I skint right now?
Fingers crossed the hardback is still available next month...  :'(

Thing is, I haven't read this before. What if I don't like it? Would the nice edition with the extra lovely print still be worth it in that eventuality? Probably not. I like nice comic art but not to that degree. It seems up my street but, it's still a bit of a chance.

Hmm.

Get the paperback, definately. No reason to get the hardback. Noooo siree. Not at all. (cough)  ::)

I'm particularly awed by the amount of detail you add at the inking stage - not sure i'd have the balls to attempt that. Bravo sir!

That would have been rude.

Unintentionally though, I think.

As for the cover...

QuoteCover: Hmm... I'm going to go against the consensus here and say it's a bit underwhelming. I love Ben Willsher for his fantastic work in 2000 AD and Doctor Who Monthly but while this cover is technically impressive (sure, those firearm flares are expertly rendered) there's something lacking in sheer excitement. I think it's because, for a science fiction magazine, a picture of two pretty regular-looking guys firing regular-looking firearms doesn't really fit the bill (plus, as mentioned elsewhere on this message baord, doesn't Sin look a bit humdrum these days?). And like last week, the image doesn't have a lot to do with what's going on in the story. I don't have the prog in front of me right now but isn't the whole point that SinDex don't actually get in a firefight this week? I guess maybe Willsher's brief was just a bit unimaginative. I'd rather have had, I don't know, a recreation of the frame with the Devil kneeling by the corpse of Banjo Tigershark (NOT his real name) with SinDex looking on astonished and a caption "The Devil gets his due" or something.

Whilst I agree that it's certainly a stock pose for Finny & Ray, I also think that's the point of the cover. An image of 'The Devil' would have spoilt the surprise in the prog. This way, the reader will expect the protagonists to be the ones getting the Hit, and the twist remains secret till it's read. (I'm guessing that's the reasoning anyway, it could also just be to tell the reader that Sin/Dex is in the prog!)

And as for Finny's looks... I dunno. I like to think he dresses how he feels at any given time. Sometimes he paints himself up (and it definately is make-up, as proven in Malone), sometimes he can't be arsed and just gels his hair.
He's like Dredd in that respect - the uniform may slightly change, but as long as it's Dredd/Finny in there it doesn't matter!

That cover is absolutely fantastic. It looks really crisp and clean and modern but best of all it has amazing depth. Just look at it - it's almost 3D!

It really is great isn't it.
The colouring is exquisite, with the black lines kept just for shadow.
Definately need this style in the prog.

Speaking of Kingdom, I'm a bit puzzled by the giant tick Leezee. Early on she says:

"The masters brought me here. They could not detach me from the tick in my flesh."

This suggests, this is the original. But if that's the case, why isn't she just a grown woman, with a tick? Why the hybridisation?

It would make more sense if she were an earlier clone who came out wrong due to mixing the human and tick DNA, who turned out to be an accidental asset due to her connection with the ticks. Or alternatively she was genetically engineered that way with the intention of breeding the weaponised ticks and influencing the other human clone, in the first place.

Later on she does say: "They made me too. Me and my kind."

That would support my theory, but it contradicts her earlier statement. Of course she likely inherited the memories of the original, so she still thinks of herself as her, (in which case, is she still around) or she was lying to get Gene on her side. It's interesting that she sees the ticks as 'her kind'.

"They made me too. Me and my kind."
I took this to be the tick speaking through her, as it were.

On reflection though, it is a bit odd that Leezee would have mutated in this way. It suggests the influence of the tick is more than just a mental one.
And if the 'current' Leezee is a clone of tick-infested Leezee, shouldn't she retain something of the tick itself also? Like in Alien Resurrection?
Or were the genetic samples taken before she was infected?

Apologies, I'm rambling. And as you say, the story ain't done yet...
