Slightly different style from Ben Willsher on the cover, and I like it alot!

Good Dredd, raised by great art. Tom Foster, while clearly riffing on Bolland's style, always manages to come through on his own merits and not as a Bolland clone. This is a Very Good Thing!

Sin/Dex is always welcome, especially now that the bloody Tanenbaum/Clones/Alternate Universe stuff is seemingly done with (kind of). Not sure that Steve Yeowell is the best choice of artist, but John Charles' colouring is really bringing out the best from Steve's work. (Still got my fingers crossed for the return of the Mighty Anthony Williams though.)

Kingmaker/The Order - haven't read yet, but will do very soon now they're finished...

Kingdom... ends. Ends very well, in fact. [spoiler]With ripped off heads and everything![/spoiler] Doesn't feel like the end of a book though, was hoping we would have a few more episodes. No matter, can't complain when the thrills are so good!

Because it lives and breathes in a way few artists can capture. It's full of incidental detail and crammed with... stuff that looks strange and mysterious but somehow also looks worn, lived in, but functional. You have no idea what half these things are supposed to do, but you have no doubt that they all do something.

Can you recommend comics with his illustrations?

Someone will be along with the Dredd case file volumes that you need, but in the meantime..

Admittedly, none of these will show you his Mega-City One, but you do need to see them!

I never knew there was a backlash against Johns art as even in my youth I thought "That's stuff is fucked up, but in a good way".

There were some particularly nasty things written about Hinklenton, during his run on Satanus III and in The Meg letters pages at that time that went well beyond constructive criticism and appeared more of a targeted, personal attack.

I do recall posts on this board during the Satanus III run (from myself included) that were calling Hicklenton's work sloppy (or words to that effect).
However, when we were informed of his struggles with MS we instantly saw this work under a new light, and soon realised just how lucky we were to have his work in the Meg.

I really hope this wasn't the criticism that Pat was referring to, and I hope he knows just how much this board loves John's work.

For what it's worth I'm not the biggest fan of the story for Satanus III, but it's by no means a bad Dredd story.

Must confess, Henry Flint is currently a massive influence, but I like to think a little of the Brett Ewins influence of old still leaks through... (sniff )

On the online shop it says the 40th special is no longer available to order. Are there more being printed or have I missed out?
