General / Re: The Worst Dredd in the World.....

I too sat out the Morrison/Millar/Steelgrave years, so can't comment on the reported horrors therein.

A couple of anti-faves that do stick in my mind though:

The Face of Justice, by Ronny Morrison and Steve Sampson.  Dredd takes his helmet off and allows a dying blind artist girl (no, really....) to feel his face. Set anti-schmaltz shields to maximum!

The one where Jack the Ripper gets magically time-teleported to the Big Meg, and Dredd shoots him.  Hmmm, plot ideas circuits definitely running on power-save setting that week.

The one where a squadron of WW2 German Messerschmidts get magically time-teleported to the Big Meg, and Dredd shoots them down.  See above.  Good art on this one, though.

>>OMWF really seems to polarise people; there's a weird Marmite factor about it (worship/despise)...

Well, on the sole plus side, it did give us Anya in her undies.

I loved Hush.

I think The One Where Her Ma Snuffs It and The One With All The Fucking Singing are the dismally overrated pieces of TV crap I've ever seen.

Seriously.

Incredible.  You pick two of my all-time most hated episodes.

What?  And miss the final surprise scene where Buffy gets her puppies out?

That would be one interpretation of the situation, yes.

Alternatively, you could consider the example of Singapore.  (And it's scary how many discussions about 'Mega-City One in the real world' come back to Singapore in the end...)

Both are strong, authoritarian, densly-populated, ultra-modern urban police states; in both cities, most of the housing, transport systems etc are state-owned and operated.

So far so Marxist, but Singapore is still a thriving centre of bustling capitalism and corporate might.

I could talk about the imaginary economics of MC-1 all day (no, really, I could...) but I've got to be at my accountants in 90 minutes and I still haven't finished fictionalising my expense claims for the last 18 months.

Lawgivers - Mk 1s or Mk 2s - only blow up on you if you try pulling the trigger.

Mega City motorways are called Megways.

Creds exist as cash, but of course they'll still be cred cards too.

Good question.  Money doesn't seem to be too much of a problem in MC-1.  Maybe citizens' unemployment beneifits are high, or prices are just really low.  Most of the money seems to end up back in Justice Department/City coffers anyway, so maybe everything is heavily subsidized.

I say we settle the arguments by combining this thread with another very popular one onthe board.

Get ready for 'Dr Who Companions in their underwear'.

(But not 'Dr Whos in their underwear, because that would be an evil sickness.  Particularly if it was current pics of Colin Baker in his Ys...)

Oh come on, man.  Everyone knows Bonny Langford was a much better companion than Ace, and a whole lot fitter too...

Asking a Dr Who question round here?  6 replies in the first 15 minutes alone?

See now what madness you've released, man!

Yes, Nottingham FP is strangely alright.  I wonder which of the two rival warring FP chains it belongs to?

"Nottingham FP: slightly more than just an overpriced toy shop!"

>>Couldn't you get a copy from the Mighty One?

Hey, I'm happy just to score a free Mean Machine mug once in a blue moon.

I imagine it'll be a lot easier to score freebies like the book collections.....uuuuh, I mean 'ask Tharg for vital research material'....when the collections are all done in-house at Rebellion, and not through Titan.

I was in the same place today, looking for the new Apocalypse War collection.

They obviously didn't have the shekels left to order it in, after cramming their order forms and shop full of Hulk movie merchandise.
