How can a legitimate printer be so shit and why are they tolerating it?

In the printing business, it's very common practice, when a client habitually lets you down on payment for a job, to refuse to give them the latest thing you've done for them until they've paid for the last job.

When readers can start predicting the length of everything that appears in the comic, then it spoils some of the fun.

Well, you're completely wrong about the length of this Aquila story, and so may well be way off with your other predictions too. So plenty of unspoiled fun still to be had, surely?

You can easily fit a Future Shock into four pages.  Cutting out a page of what's often relative waffle would probably benefit the format.

I wonder. If you asked Karl Urban I'd imagine he'd give his permission sans payment.

And I imagine his agent might have something to say about that.

If people are making money from this strip - and that's certainly its intention - why should anyone waive a hard-won right to control the use of their image in it?

What Jim said. It's difficult to see any script-droid of the requisite skill and experience being much tempted to create a work-for-hire sandbox universe for others to create stuff in. (If you thought your world was any good, you'd want to write the stories yourself.)  Take a look at the history of Tekmo comics - "Create a world for other writers to write in? Why, certainly. Here's some lazy rubbish I scribbled down on the back of a fag packet. That'll be $100,000 please!" - to see how this generally works.

Grant's idea about having a poll to select a regular week-in week-out roster of character-based strips is also a bit of a serious non-starter, I'm afraid.

If CF had appeased the Cyclist and let him carry on his merry way at full tilt, maybe round the corner a woman with a push chair. Whammo a little baby is seriously injured (or worse).
At least this way John has given the Cyclist something to think about.

Talking of pram-related accidents, did you fall out yours as a child? Possibly on to your head, and this is what gave you special powers to be able to foresee what further tragedies could have happened if one person hadn't had the good grace to assault another?

Do you think that, maybe right now on some message board somewhere else, someone is telling a story about how they were cycling along when some random bloke - possibly thuggish-looking? - acted in a way  to deliberately knock him off his bike and then tried to start a fight with him?

4 pages for a Future Shock is still plenty. Especially when too many FS ideas I've seen tend to have 1-2 pages of waffle on the way to that final page payoff.

It's all brilliant, hope when sequel will happens, so those Judges will be at some cinemas in USA, for screenings of Dredd 2!

I think Grant's "I don't know what to do at this stage" comment tells you everything you need to know on which way the wind's blowing on the put up or shut up score.

They should have put a bit more of karl's  features in there.

...for which they'd probably have had to pay him and give him art approval, since, in the US, actors own the copyright on their own likeness.  (In the comic adaptation of the Stallone Dredd movie, Stallone's people apparently requested major changes in the likeness used for him.)

Writer Alexander Cockburn, reporting on various atrocities in Central America in the 80s, had a formula about how press coverage of these things worked:

1000 dead peasants = 10 dead foreign aid workers = 5 dead nuns  = 1 dead western journalist.

I heard that the Rogue Trooper videogame did pretty well in the US too.

It pretty much disappeared without trace in North America.
