Suggestions / Re: 2000AD for Kids

I like this idea.

You could try Captain Klep, Luke Kirby if they could ever sort the rights out, etc.

To be honest I'd like to see a 2000AD for kids (from Rebellion), possibly starting out digitally to cut costs? Use Kickstarter to get the initial funds!

Ah, Kickstarter. The a la mode answer to everything.

It's one thing for individuals to use Kickstarter to fund interesting, offbeat and/or minority interest projects that might otherwise never see the light of day. It's quite another, surely, to suggest that a priavely-owned, profit-making and commercially-driven company do likewise.

Sorry, there should be a 'dis' in front of that 'continued', re. the w40K MMO's situation.

Hmm - if only 2000ad had some kind of connection witha a games company....  ;)

...with the tens of millions they'd need to spend in dev costs before they ever saw a penny back in micro transactions, whatever.

Don't  be fooled by "Wow! The DCU MMO has a million subscribers!" The DCU MMO is generally considered to be
a failure at present, after taking years and a fortune to make, and had to go FTP to survive in the short-term.

In other The MMO Goldrush Is Over news. The Warhammer 40K MMO seems to have hit the skids, after its publisher continued work on it because of its high development costs.

Well, your best bet is to buy the Necronauts solo outing rather than the Tharg's Terror Tales.... Then, if you ever decide you want A Love like Blood as well, you can pick up the Storming Heaven trade which contains A Love like Blood, Storming Heaven, From Grace and myriad other one-offs - a lot more bang for your buck.

Although, in the case of Storming Heaven, it's really more of a damp squib, than a bang.

Out today, apparently. Seems to be a bit of a stealth-launch, which must be slightly disappointing to all concerned.

Review from the generally highly reliable Eurogamer:

boobs

With blood on them. An image that more than panders to subliminal ideas of sexual violence.

If this was advertising my work, I'd be ashamed of myself.

Hey, I'm not sticking up for his position - just telling you what he tells his readers and anyone who'll listen. He reckons if he doesn't call himself a journalist, then no rules, guidelines or concept of right and wrong applies to him.

Including - whenever I look at that site - the rules of basic written English.

fair enough... Saturday 28th? Weegeeville?

You want to go to Glasgow for a friendly drink-up on the same day as an Old Firm derby at Parkhead?

I remember this fron first time around, twenty years ago. Prepare to be seriously disappointed.

But...but there was loads to do in GTA IV after you completed the main story! You could go around looking for all those collectable object pigeons to kill, and....errmm....no, wait...I'll think of something else in a minute...

I mentioned the darts already, didn't I? Damn...

To be fair, some of the multiplayer modes were fun - a whole city to chase each other around in.

Saints Row 2 has a cruise control feature that functions much like what you're talking about.

In fact, as derivative as the Saints Row games are, they've got a whole list of features that can best be described as "things in GTA that annoy you, and that we've fixed and made a lot better in our game".

QuoteBe nice to have a Forza-style rewind button too - it's always annoying when you accidentally bring down the fuzz when you're actually trying to keep within the law!

And usually because the vehicle handling was so weird that taking a corner at anything more a slow crawl could easily result in mass pedestrian-killing.  Or crashing into that passing cop car.

QuoteI for one am hoping this one builds on the more 'realistic' GTAIV, which I found much more satisfying to play than the PS2 games - though I know I'm in a minority there. Leave the silly costumes, fighter jets, jet packs etc for DLC, or Saints Row.

Possibly.....but they could still put in side activities that are marginally more exciting that having your fucking annoying cousin phoning you up asking if you fancy a game of darts.

Is it a complete retelling, back to the Roman stuff, or a sequel?

Sounds like more of a loose reimagining, from what (little) Ive heard.

Yeah. To be honest, I'm really hesitant to call it a reboot at all. You have to squint quite hard to see the original source material in there. It's certainly got no aliens and galactic gladiator stuff in it, and, while we've gone back to the historical setting, this whole Dirty Dozen meets Spartacus thing from the original Tornado stories is news to me - I didn't go back and re-read any of the old stories, and have no recollection at all of that being their set-up.

Still looking forward to hopefully picking up a copy of the new collection, but it's not essential reading for getting into what we're doing with Aquila.
