The 2012 Dredd film is a film that is entirely faithful and respectful to its source material, it is not an exercise in fan appeasement.

You mean apart from having Sternhammer Block, Minty, Goaty, Radiator, Commando Forces, Joe Soap, Kenny Who? and Chopper namechecked in various bits of signage or graffiti?

Really? Seems to me Dredd has been putting names on the side of buildings for 40 years......

I really don't understand your point there - you say that 2012 wasn't an exercise in fan appeasement, and I pointed out that *board members* had namechecks in the film.

That's a world of difference from throwaway gags about celebrity named blocks in the world of Dredd.

I'm not saying throwing bones to fans is a bad thing, more pointing out your statement about the 2012 Dredd and fan appeasement doesn't seem to be borne out by the sheer amount of fan nods in there.

The forum even gets a mention in the credits.

I take fan appeasement as something that intrudes on the story being told - fan service, etc.  Blink and you miss them references that most viewers wouldn't catch unless they're specifically looking for them don't count, in my book.

It isn't a good idea to listen to fans, at all. Ever.

I hear ya ;)

Mega-City Comics still had one or two copies left when I went in on Wednesday (can't guarantee they still have them now).  Selling for £1.

I remember going on holiday and reading Five on a Treasure Island by Enid Blyton. Worth a read if you haven't already. you could then move on to an Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators classic. You don't really need to read them in order.

Five go to Smuggler's Top was my favourite Famous Five book.

Though thinking about it - is Treasure Island the first Five book?  And Smuggler's Top is quite early in the run anyway.

From that topic, I was expecting a comic strip made up from pictures of the 3a Dredd and Lawmaster :-/

Until seeing it in the back of a car I hadn't really got a grasp on the size of the thing!

Great Lego pics, SIP!

Ultimately, I'd rather folks watched my videos because they sincerely wanted to. That said, I'm way ahead of you on playlists. There are several already available on the channel.

In all honesty, 2000 views is a pretty attainable figure looking over my current channel stats. The bigger issue is whether Youtube is worth bothering with at all considering how quickly the landscape changes ver there, and how lacking in transparency they are.

Subscribed, nice, bite-sized chunks, may watch/listen to a few in my lunch hour at work next week.

Cheers for feedback Sheridan. It looks pretty cool from trailers ive seen. Think I'm gonna check it out myself. Nothing can replace the nostalgia of original. Personally I'm still hoping for a live action Ulysses 31! Was optioned by Canal + a few years ago but it think its in development hell.

I think it's as good (including sometimes hackneyed dialogue) as the original, but without the benefit of nostalgia - so if you can put that aside you should enjoy it as much (or at least I do - haven't seen all of it yet).

Absolutely loved the original series of this as a kid. It still stands up pretty well today. Just wondering if anyone caught Series 2 they released on Dvd couple of years ago? Any good?

I've watched a bit of it - special effects are better than the original, script and dialogue is on par - no complaints from me.  Only thing it lacks is the nostalgia factor, which can't be helped.

Brazil is one of those films that I've watched and wondered what I had missed that everyone else saw that often earns it the "best film ever made" comments......so I rewatch thinking it'll suddenly click with me. Still not taken to it at this point.

Oh, i also really don't like Taxi driver. Something I am also assured is "the best film ever!".

Anyway, Dredd TV series, awesome!!! 😊

Maybe you just don't like Robert de Niro?

No, it's not that. I love De Niro in Casino, Goodfellas, Godfather 2, Heat etc ......though I prefer Al Pacino.

I watched it Brazil quite recently and I would also say that it looks really cheap and has dated horribly in comparison to some similarly aged films. Blade Runner and Alien however both still look incredible.

I suspect that's more budget constraints (or just... Ridley Scott).

People didn't see the film because they didn't know it was on. It's a marketing issue. People who have seen it like it.

I know plenty of people who did know it was on and did want to see it, but didn't because there was a woeful lack of 2d showings to view.  Even in a city whose metropolitan area contains a quarter of the population of the country, I could only find one cinema which showed it in 2d (which I visited, twice, along with watching it at a few city centre cinemas).

What's the betting on this thread overtaking the massive 879 page count of Goaty's 'Dredd (2012)' Thread?

12 pages in a little over 24 hours, and two years to go?
