From Gregory (the 3A guy leading the 2000ad line):

Those are some early paint test photos, seeing what he and the clothing look like under different lighting. We'll have some much more polished and dynamic photos this weekend. And of course he'll be chomping on Stogie
Stogie or a stogie?  Seeing as Cutie was gone by the time Stogie came along :-(  In a perfect Robo-world they'd have both been around at the same time though (unless Millar was writing it).

I have also been up to Mega City in Camden, mainly to get the the two DC Judge Dredd lines (in the 90's I think) but IIRC they don't do much 2000AD and I don't read anything else (apart from the Meg  ) so haven't been there for ages.
Shame - you missed the complete 2000AD collection (including such items as the Summer Supercomic and the Dan Dare Poster) which they were selling a few years back...

I am not familiar with those - what were they? I would be gutted if I miss out on some tooth stuff.  :(
The Dan Dare Poster Magazine was the first non-weekly publication from the House of Tharg (and a bit of a cash-in - being a reprint of a centrespread from the weekly and a reprint of a pre-2000AD DD strip) while The 2000AD Summer Special Supercomic, as well as tripping off the tongue, was the precursor to the Sci-Fi Specials.

Dredd overstepping the mark was interesting. Sooner or later he and Hershey are going to have a big falling out. As for the rest, Strontium Dog took an odd turn. I really liked most of last week's opener, but the depiction of the North Koreans has me feeling a bit uneasy. Such overt caricature has I guess been a part of Strontium Dog from day one, but it's still a bit off in these more enlightened times, akin to someone doing dodgy accents while pulling at the sides of their eyes.
Presumably this is why it was originally trailed as The Jing Jong Job and is now called The Stix Fix?

I was at a party in Withington once and met a bloke who said he was going to release a cover of "The Time Warp".  His name was Damien. And he did.
Oh, that reminds me of the bloke I met in a small London nightclub (Gossips, now sadly closed) who stated that he used to be in a band called EMF (in the kind of tone that suggested he'd be surprised if I'd heard of / remembered them).  I gather they released another album a few years later.

After having headlined a festival, the guitarist from The Dubliners (don't ask me which one) once bought me a glass of cola at a pub when I was a kid.

(I also saw Bros & Ned's Atomic Dustbin there once, but we don't talk about that. It's kind of an inverse 'Sex Pistols at the 100 club' situation).

Uh, you mean on the same bill?  They're not exactly the same genre of music...

Although I have it in boxes somewhere, the current return of pre-Apocalypse War Orlok in the pages of 2000AD could be complimented by a re-print of The Inspectre...

I think someone wrote a letter into Tharg about it before.  He's just a big-chinned Ezquerra man.  Much like Ezquerra himself.

I definitely remember someone having made that connection in the pre-internet days (which means I must have read it in the Meg letters page).

"Other than that, top stuff. Should be a fucking miserable episode next time when covering the Dredd story that has depressed me the most to read."
Sorry for questioning Sheridan - I meant to ask J.Smith why the strong feelings for Mandroid - I've never read it but assumed it must be good to be put into the Dredd collection so early.

It is a good story, but I can see why it could instil feelings of misery and depression in those who read it (especially if you're from a military background).  i.e. not because it's a bad story, but because of the themes and content.

I don\t like his face and anybody do that thing with black face paint around the eyes.

Like he's some sort raccon.

And I've had friends who have spent the night in A&E because a strange didn't like their face or the way they chose to dress.  What's your point?

The speech balloon seems oddly positioned on the cover. It seems to be indicating that Quartz' voice is coming out of his eye.

It's an interesting attempt to redesign the Mr 10% suit to make it more contemporary. The brain dome was originally intended to look like a bowler hat (at least to my eyes), reflecting the seventies businessman that Quartz represented. Here it looks more horrific, something which hasn't really been dwelt on before.

Still wondering how the evil Ebenezer Quartz from Star Lord fits into Savage continuity :)

Have you seen the post at 2000AD Covers Uncovered?

Sheridan, I've never read Mandroid. Why the strong feelings? Without spoilers if possible.

?  I liked Mandroid - one of the best Dredd stories for some time at the time it was published.
