I double-checked Pete's facebook post and it was set to 'world' (or whatever it's called - anybody can read it so it's all out in the open).

Pete's big announcement is that the series of stories he's worked on for the past few years has gone to the next level:

Inclusive Stories - it even features a cartoonified version of Lovely Pete at the bottom of the page!

I really should have deleted the name of the main character - I usually remember to do things like that if google doesn't obfuscate it along the way :)
#845
Yay - the forum software let me edit the posts so that both the contributions thread and comments thread link to each other!  Thank you SMF!

All a bit last minute, so there's still plenty of days to claim if you wish to contribute something - stake your claim for a date on the thread over here.  If you've already got a day then post your entry on this thread but don't post any comments about entries - they go on a dedicated thread!

I'll kick things off with my daily "GN Blurb Translated Too Many Times" available on last year's thread * though the actual thing for today is going to be from Trooper McFad.

Confusing this, isn't it?  So as this is very last minute there's plenty of days still to claim - almost the whole month is empty so far!

Stake your claim for a date on this thread.
and...
View contributions to the advent calendar here.

Except I'm trying to create both threads at the same time so I may have to actually make them linkable in replies to this post!

My first one for this year's advent (I'm reusing the old thread to keep 'em all in one place).

This one shouldn't be particularly difficult but hopefully should raise a smile along the way.

Sheridan

Never participated in this before but l'd been  working on a couple of things in anticipation. So I can do the 1st & 2nd to give some breathing  space for others.
Do i just post on this thread  tomorrow or will  you create  a specific one?

Trooper McFad

Good question - I'm new to this but it seems to be tradition to have an advent calendar thread and then a comments thread - or am I getting mixed up with the art competitions?   I guess they're similar in many ways so it looks like I'll be starting two new threads tomorrow!

I'll reply to Colin's calendar adding your name...

Thank you for doing this Sheridan. I do have something I'd like to do and having a deadline will hopefully make it happen! So...

No problem it was super easy, barely an inconvenience* (I copied and pasted what Pete posted from a previous year and wrote a bit at the beginning).  Certainly agree about the deadline thing - I've volunteered myself to do 25 of those translations.  I have ten already (of varying quality) and have to go through the process of translating the rest - which might sound easy but to get something that's a) not immediately obvious and b) entertaining can take some work* :)

* spot the reference!
** using a very lax definition of the word 'work' here, obviously.

As an aside, I had never heard of the Mesozoic period when I first read this, and as such still automatically pronounce it 'metal-zoyk' in my head.

I don't know this to be the truth, but I strongly suspect this would also have been true in my case.  I don't recall coming to any realisation on how to actually pronounce it but I somehow came to the correct pronounciation one way or another.

General / The 2021 2000AD Messageboard Advent Calendar
30 November, 2021, 02:54:54 PM
I've not seen anything along these lines suggested for this year, but wouldn't there normally be an announcement about the advent calendar by now?  'Lovely' Pete Wells is a bit busy this year (announced why on Facebook but I can't remember if it was for public consumption or not, so I won't go in to specifics here, but it's good news for Pete) so I can see why there hasn't been anything so far.

With nine hours until December it's a bit short notice (as opposed to the week or two usuall) but here's a list of numbers for people to reply and fill in with their names.  For myself I'll do what I did last year and post daily translations of 2000AD blurbs (so I won't put my name down on any particular day).

Oh no!  I completely failed to confirm everybody's correct guesses!

Quote from: 2000AD-blurb-droidThe adventures of fan favourite character Armoured Gideon are collected in a digital-only graphic novel for the first time!

Quote from: google-translateFor the first time, the game is intended for Jackson fans only!
