It's noce when he does ink rather than go straight in colouring the pencils. Call me old-fashioned...

ME:The other series that Iâ??ve personally wanted to see you working on is Ace Garp...

BOO:Arrrgh! I knew it! One pin-up! I do just one pin-up, and everyone keeps asking!
Of course, Iâ??m very fond of old Ace, butâ?¦ itâ??s not going to come back, is it? Is it? I just donâ??t think itâ??d work in todayâ??s frame, would it? Nobodyâ??s into CBs any more. The strip ran its course. Maybe a one-offâ??d be a good thing to see, but, I donâ??t know about bringing him back for good.

I think I'd be embarrassed to report it after all this time.

"News just in- Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father!"
Pffft...

Gibson's a real gent... I recently won a page of 'Fairwell my Billions' on ebay and cheekley asked for a wee sketch thrown into it as well.

I got the package two days later, with the wee sketch and a nice note from the Gibster.

On the few occasions I've met him in the past he was nothing but courtious (SP??)and always seems to have time to listen to sad, ageing fanboys like myself on how I like the way he draws Dredds eagle like another wee character with eyes and expressions etc...

I'd love a commission from him, I must email and get the ball rolling on that...

Note to Tharg... get Ian Gibson a good script to work on, we want him back!

Sorry for the necropost, but I see that Ian's got a new weekly column:

"I know Rebellion, bless 'em, have been trying to kill off the titles they have in their own obscure manner. The sad part about it is that I don't think they realise they're doing it?"

Er, what? The Meg's a bit rubbish right now, but 2000 AD's largely been on a high for a year or more.

is that just Mr Gibson moaning because no one will  let him do books 4 - 9 of Halo Jones.

"comics are dead, boo hoo!" - That attitude really boils my piss. Mostly because it's nowhere near true in any way. If you were to say British weekly comics are dead then yeah, that's mostly happened. But comics thrive all over the world.

I think the titles are managed very well.  Looking at the quality of the comics (despite dips) and what we get as readers in the form of merchandise etc. Rebellion have done a good job I reckon.

However, it's not growth or attempting to get new readers or make inroads into new areas.  It's keeping the status quo going, which is a feat in itself, but it is treading water to some degree.

Still each to their own.
