A glowing review and I'll definitely be picking this up:

Preview art for his second issue (and I'm still loving those pencils and inks):

Also good to see Zemo back but in this shiny Heroic Age they are setting him back into more classic supervillain mode, which rather looses a lot of complexity they had built up for the character (where he was trying to do the right thing but in an over-bearing, my-way-or-the-highway manner).
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Yeah, that's a bit strange... last I'd read of Zemo was in his own GN (Born... something) where he did a bit of time travel and 'found himself', deciding he wanted to be a better man.

Is the Heroic Age a new dimension (or something) that Marvel's dreamed up, where past character development get's thrown on the fire?

Somebody needs to put Kev on a horror title starring Man-Thing at the earliest opportunity, if you ask me.

Cheers!

Oh that is nice. Of course, Kev Walker has drawn a horror title containing Man-Thing - Marvel Zombies 3 and 4 ;) However, I get your point, although I suspect he will be moving on and up, so nest stop for him will be a cape title, which I think would be a pity. I'd like to see him really roll it out in some more horror and sci-fi titles (like he has done with MZ and Realm of Kings) where his top range art could really add to some interesting stories.

Born Better. I had thought this might be a series setting him up for a full "face turn" but apparently not.

The Heroic Age is more a status quo than a storyline, like the previous Dark Reign, where all the baddies had the upper - in HA the goodies are good and the baddies are bad, so there is no grey.

According to Brubaker:

QuoteNrama: But Zemo is a full-fledged villain in this, right?

Brubaker: Definitely. One of the things that I think is nice about the Heroic Age is that we have this idea of hero and villain. Because over the years we've taken a lot of the cooler villains and, because people like them so much, they sort of make them into good guys. Like, for a while, it looked like Sabretooth was maybe going to be a good guy. And I was like, "No! Not Sabretooth!" But Juggernaut was one of the coolest villains of all time, and for a while he was a good guy! I mean, seriously? Juggernaut's going to be a good guy?

So my mission for this story is I want Zemo to be a really bad guy again. I want Zemo to be one of the best villain bad guys that I can turn him into while still finding a way to make that organically work with his whole history.

The problem is it feels like they are hitting a reset button sending him back to the state he was in 15-20 years ago and ignoring the long and complex path to redemption he has been on.

Also the whole reasoning looks iffy now as the Thunderbolts contains Juggernaut, Moonstone and Crossbones. The first has tried to become a hero but the other two are sneak murdering psychopaths.

Dunno if it's par for the course at Marvel these days, but that's a book on a tight turnaround, since Kev posted on Facebook that he'd finished the art for 145 (on time) just five days before those samples were posted!

Cheers

There is a vote on at the moment to pick a new Thunderbolt:

I'm trying to get some momentum behind Elf With a Gun, because... he is an elf who has a gun. You can enter the name under "other."

I picked up it up via Declan Shalvey's blog and he hints it might be him drawing this (although as a fill-in for Kev Walker again, he did a couple of issues for the Shadowland crossover, or as a replacement is unclear):

Damn right. I have a lot of love for Man-Thing (steady on chaps) going back to... possibly Marvel UK's Savage Action? So I've got a lot of love for the character (picked up the Essential Man-Thing and loved that too) and his style clearly works wonderfully, he has drawn him in a couple of stories now so has got under the character's... murky crust.

I reckon John Smith wouldn't be an outrageous pick for the writer either.
