As usual, the genius who is D'Israeli is publishing his fascinating and very entertaining blog while doing Low Life. The first instalment is up and treats involve the full unsullied cover for this week's prog, a 3D model of an H-Wagon, fantastic pencils and the Ezquerra Hatching Brush!

I always find D'Israeli's blog entries informative - but this was a particularly good one.

Off topic: I can't help hearing the Pearl Jam song in my head. But that's about a cannibalistic bus driver, not a beardy undercover judge.

I seem to recall Rob Williams mentioning he's a big Pearl Jam fan and that's where he got the name from, haven't heard it myself like.
Great blog as always, I love Low Life,I'm so excited to get this weeks prog!

Dan Dare will return for a new adventure soon, Earthlets!

I like the fact that a lot of artists on their Blogs take the time to explain how they create and show sketches instead of just showing the finished work. Its much more interesting.

There's a little looseness in that pic of D'izzy's that I find quiet exciting -- the one problem with vector illustration is that it can make one overly fussy about your lines, since they remain editable after you've made the stroke.

This pic is done in Manga Studio, which feels more like 'real' inking. There's something slightly more spontaneous in this pic, and a whiff of either Kennedy or McMahon in that landing pad, that's making me really look forward to this next Lowlife outing.

Cheers!

D'israeli in timelapse!

Also, in the comments, an astonishingly useful hint about modifying your tablet -- maybe everyone else had already thought of taping paper over the drawing area to increase traction between the nib and the drawing surface, but I hadn't, and it's fucking brilliant.

Cheers!

On the subject of d'israeli, i found issue one of Bloody Hell! an early nineties uk horror comic published by sport newspapers (and chocka with both porn ads and kev f sutherland strips) that features early (?) work by the man. Did it ever go to #2, does anyone know?

He has posted on his designs for the snipers in Low Life:

It is interesting comparing this with Ben Willsher's sniper only an issue or so before. The middle design really reminds me of the more ornate design of the forensics officers that pops up from time to time (I ran across one skimming through some back progs or Megs) and I do like the idea of specialist kit, as opposed to a pretty standard uniform just tinkering with the accessories.
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Good Lord I thought I was loosing my mind (or was so tired my brain had stopped working with no warning) - I couldn't find this thread despite recently posting to it and the search function is still down so... eventually Google coughed it up and I realised the previous posts had been swallowed by The Missing Week, which was why it couldn't be easily found.

Anyway the missing link is:

And now we have part two, musing about the Hondo-City panorama and the tricky life of a freelancer:

another wonderfully long and detailed blog, interesting take on detail in panels too. Given the very high standards he sets himself its no wonder he's his own biggest critic, personally I think he's head and shoulders above any other artist currently working in the Prog.

Having read SVK between the last two episodes of Low life- I am of the opinion that Dizzy is head and shoulders above most artists working n comics today. The man is astounding.

Really looking forward to reading of SVK - my copy's finally on the way now it seems to have had another print run (just a heads up for anyone like me who missed out first time around).
