Because online I'm useless...

Firstly I'll apologize because I'm certain I'd seen a topic somewhat identical to what I'm about to write here before I joined the forum but I can't seem to find it...
I'm useless with computers. I can work a word document fine and I know how to find things online, but everything else completely throws me. So with that out in the open, could anybody here show a little mercy and let me know how you go about personalizing your profiles on the forum? I've no idea how to put a picture up to go with my name or a sentence beneath it or any of that stuff which comes so easy to everybody else! I've tried clicking on my own name (to be told an error has occurred) and I've looked around the HELP option but so far, I'm still completely lost here.

When you first sign up  you have some restrictions, but when you've posted for a while, the mods should activate your account - once that's done, just click on 'Profile' above the "hello" bit, and you can customise all that shit.

mods? any idea what that error message means?
