I think the absolute most you could hope for (and even then it's very unlikely) is something with a linear path like the CoD franchise, or a multiplayer only arena based FPS.

It's still a lot of money to sink into an IP which doesn't have a film franchise to back it up.

Compared to a decade ago, it seems that the games industry is pretty skewed, with mostly AAA titles, or cheap tablet/phone games with an emphasis on in-app purchases (and that looks like a flaky business model in itself)

If you want Cursed Earth Dredd, the (relatively) least risky thing would be DLC for Sniper Elite multiplayer.

I suppose something like the Telltale Games Walking Dead games may be viable but it would still cost mega bucks.
