webcam problems

Hai-elp hai-elp!

I have a cheapo digital camera, that plugs into my Windows XP as a USB webcam (drivers installed but no software to view the pic).

Now, Netmeeting allows me to view the streaming video from the camera, but the resolution is fixed at PANTS.

I'm looking for some freeware that will show me the pic at a better resolution - allowing me to use the thing to take [print screens] and therefore still photos.

(The reason I don't do this just with the camera unplugged from the PC is that it eats batteries for breakfast - you either have it unplugged and eating battery or plugged in and streaming vid - there be no road between.)
