I had heard a rumour that there might be some SciFi fans around these here parts.

"The magazine (Variety) also reported that Smith had signed up to star in a screen adaptation of the 1940s Isaac Asimov short story collection I, Robot."

On the one hand I feel a frisson of excitement at the thought one of my favourite books from one of my favourite SF writers finally hitting the screen in an age where the techniques exist to give it the treatment it deserves.

And then I remember ID4.

People have been asking for a ressurection of Johnny for some time now but is he actually dead? I thought the current crop of SD stories were a reimagining as it were of the original stories.

I tmay have changed but the first story seems to support this idea. So we probably shouldn't ask for him to come back from the dead if he's already alive!

I've read part of the aborted I, Robot script written in the 70s by Harlan Ellison. What I read was really quite good. Let's hope this new one does the stories justice. And *doesn't* chop out the Donovan & Powell parts.

terry Nation did the caves of steel for tv back in the 60's I think.  Gawd I'd love to see that.

And that's Will Smith... I wonder if he'll be doing one of his great chart-topping raps as the theme tune...

Asimov RIP

All sci-fi fans bow in awe of this great icon.

Asimov was some of the first sci-fi i ever read, i still remember the robot looking face on the front of I Robot paperback when I was a kid.

It better be a good film.

I spent a lovely summer three years back having just discovered Asimov. The robot books are the glory of the man. Bicenttenial man was not that bad. It had some awful schmaltz in it, but at least it tried. Good luck to Smith, but I think CGI animation would have been a better idea. Then each of the stories could have been done in order and not mashed together.

Dave6795 also loved the moment in the Asimov books when he first read the three laws, as they were used in ALIENS (paraphrased) and I always thought they were cool.
