Somewhat coincidently I was just about to post a thread asking whether the meg was worth a read, so I suppose that's my question answered then! Pity Helltrekkers is halfway through though, I'd like to have read that if only for the fact that I haven't seen it since I was a nipper.
On a different note I was wondering about completing my collection of Best of 2000ad. I found quite a big pile of these in the loft. Anyone know how many this series ran to and what availability is like now?
Cheers Jim.

Charley's war would be better off in 2000AD than the meg, it just doesn't suit, Helltrekkers is fine where it is because it's part of the Dredd-verse but Charley's War, although very good, should go to tooth' and maybe move Lowlife or Chopper to the Megazine.

I mean 2000AD has been looking more like the Meg in recent weeks with 3 Dredd-verse stories; surely it should be the other way around.

I'd like to buy the Meg on a more regular basis because it concerns the Dredd-verse but when I see so much reprint stuff that is not connected either in continuity or thematic ideas I'm put off buying it at all -way too many pages of reprint.

Please move all non Dredd-verse reprints to 2000AD and ditch one of the cack stories that sometimes appear there such a Bison etc...

Don't pay over the odds for the 'Best of' issues. There's really only the Zenith reprints that are worth more than a couple of pounds. I've frequently paid 30p or 50p for them. You might want to have a look in the boards classifieds for them, but as for details...

The day reprints appear in my prog will be the day of armageddon...

Looking at the database there were 119 "Best of" Monthlies and 4 "Best of" Specials.

There were also 42 "Complete Judge Dredd"'s, 18 "Classic Judge Dredd"'s and 15 "Classic 2000ad".

I think I may have most of the Best Of and Complete...

I really do need to raid the parents attic...

I agree I do not want reprints in my prog....  adn as much as Charlies War is lauded, Im not its greatest fan....

Yup, just to reiterate:

I'm not really arsed over the meg focusing on Dredd world strips. It tried that before and we ended up with dross like Brit Cit Brute, Brit Cit Babes, Ye Olde Brit Cit Judges, Brit Cit Judge Inspector Morse, blah blah blah. To be honest I consider the Meg to be like 2000AD monthly. I don't care if Stronty Dog, Rogue Trooper or Robo Hunter appeared, as long as the strips are of a high standard and not shoe horned into a Dredd World theme like many of the past strips have being. IMHO that's why the Meg is better now than it has ever been. It isn't hung up on trying to be Dredd, Dredd, Dredd each issue.

Oddboy

Yeah Matt is pretty much right.

But when stories are submitted from authors I'd still prefer the ones that are Dreddworld stories to go to the Meg, and the others to go to 2000AD - but not as a hard & fast rule!

If the pacing etc fits better to weekly format then go with 2000AD.  I think the recent run was a bit MC-1 heavy, and that either Chopper or Low Life probably should have run in the Meg, or maybe just not run at the same time. I'm blathering now, so I'll stop.

DavidXBrunt

Well, I think the pacing of Chopper was more Weekly than Meg.

The most obvious example I can think of is the recent Devlin Waugh tale. A Meg created character who floundered in a tale spread over a year. If it had been in the weekly over 3 months it would have been hailed as a classic. I think Chopper would have suffered a similar fate.

I think the Meg should have a slightly more adult tone, in the style of Bendatti Cornetto.

Oddboy

That's why I put in the "pacing" clause!

Probably would have been better to run Chopper at a different time to Low Life. Not that the recent run of progs was *bad*, by any shot of the imagination, but when 2000AD is over 1/2 MC-1 it's probably taking things a bit far.

Thanks chaps, I really need to take my head out of my arse and explore the rest of this site now and again methinks!
Cheers Jim.
