Can I just say that this board is really begining to piss me off. Infact it has been beginning to piss me off for about 2 months. It's a great board and all but I think that it could do with a couple of changes. I guess what I erally want is something more like UBB or phpBB. IMO* it wouldn't take to much to change. Instead of have a layout which showed each post you just have the name of the first post. Then in the view thread section you could put the whole reply deely.

Im sorry I don't want to tell you how to do your job or anything.

I don't know PHP so im probably wrong

The problem with only showing one title (either the first or the most recent) in the main index is that you can't tell whether the thread has changed tack, or who's posting. I'd need more of a consensus before changing this.

Also, it means follow up posts can clarify what the thread is about.

The reason I don't currently let people reply in the view thread page is because it would be more complicated to show which message they are replying to exactly.

Things I'm currently thing about for this board are:

Killfiles...ignore members of your choice from the main index and the view thread (but you can still click on their posts in the message thread displayed when viewing another person's message)

Emailed replies...so you get an email if someone replies directly to your post. This would probably have to be an option and you wouldn't receive emails from people in your killfile.

Message board junkies...give people the ability to turn this off as well as on.

If there's something else that people want and can agree on, I'll try and do it, but please phrase your suggestions in terms of what changes would need to be made to the existing format, rather than ask me to make it like some other board.

Alright then sorry about that.
Well if you did the whole just the title thing, you could put in how many posts have been made and who the last poster was. Possibly who started the post aswell.

One of the problems with the current layout IMO is that if some one reply's to a post half way down the thread then the reply appears after it.

I think that that poor post has a tendency to not get read and if youve been following a thread then it can get kinda of confusing. (That's really the reason Im all for all posts in a list type deely).

If you restrict the changing the name of the post then it may not change tack. That's not something I would worry about.

As for the other stuff, I say go for it, itall sounds good.

Would it help any if the message list you get at the bottom of a message was in date order, rather than threaded?

Does anyone actually like seeing the messages threaded on the main index?

How about a personal "watch thread" list, where you're emailed when someone adds to a thread you've asked to watch (with option to auto-watch any threads you're talking on)?

On the mid-thread reply front - bold or dark blue (or both) anything posted in the last n days, where "n" is user-definable?

Cheers,

Not being the most technologically-minded person, I've no idea if it's possible to save message drafts prior to posting 'em. Or indeed, if it's already available to us.

Mudcrab

Yep, I do. The only thing I'd like to see is the message board fired up in a new browser without the header and footer stuff, they tend to make it very slow sometimes.
NEGOTIATION'S OVER!

Wake, if you reply to this then I will take back every thing I said, It's just that I believe the current layout favours the new posts to much so the old ones like this one don't get looked at again. However a more compact layout might give these poor old threads a chance.

Suggestion

Thread Name       |Date Started|Date of Most recent post|Most recent poster|

That just an example.

Wake

I get all messages delivered by email, so I'm not a good example. Someone else will have to reply to show they have read it.

I'll think about a compact version of the index, but don't hold your breath. I may not have time to work on it for a while.
