Considering that attack on Floyd in the last prog i think we need a 'letter from japan' page now and then in the prog, just to annoy that letter writer :)

Devons Daddy

i have not received my  prog yet.

as such i was unaware of this.
but it does beg the question. why print such a letter?
surley the input page is about 2000ad with the writer being incidental to his thoughts.

if they need more letters for input. just post here. ask us to send in some printed out spell checked comments.

as for Floyd i have always felt he came across as a well reasoned, fair and  thoughtful critic in all his letters.
something he does here as well for that matter.

who was the aggressor?
and why?
I AM VERY BUSY!
PJ Maybe and I use the same dictionary, live with it.

NO 2000ad no life!

He said that continually reading Floyd's letters on the toilet when they appeared every few weeks made his bowel movements unpredictable.

I have to say that Mr. Kermode was in the first Meg I read when I came back to 2000AD after many many years, and I have found his frequent letters actually something of a reassuring, even comforting, influence. It's like the ravens at the tower of London: if Floyd's still writing in, then the future of 2000AD is secure. Anyway, when other comics used to have letters pages, they all used to have regulars as well.

One thing though: I think Floyd should change his site icon, because when I was a kid I was terrified of the Bananas in Pyjamas, and genuinely thought they were going to come and kidnap me in the middle of the night, and, to be frank, his icon scares the crap out of me.

I think we should pay this chap a visit...

"We hear you have been saying some bad things about a friend of ours... we are here to extract an apology..."

I was feeling particularly bored... and stupid today so I sent this off to the Input Page. I have a feeling it may never see the light of day again.

Sir

I feel I must take umbrage at the letter from Mr G. Hurley which appeared in the July issue of your splendid periodical. I also live in the picturesque town of Via E-mail and whilst I concur that some of Mr Hurley?s viewpoints are valid, I cannot honestly believe that your superb publication would benefit from the exclusion of Mr Floyd Kermode of Japan.

Mr Kermode is, I trust you and the majority of your readers will agree, a vital part of your illustrious tome. His many and varied letters have, over the years kept me purchasing 2000ad throughout the periods when the publication was in less capable hands and was verging on the boundaries of the Penny Dreadfuls.

I cannot convey the amount of joy my family receives of an evening as they gather round me after supper and await my reading of Mr. Kermode?s latest evaluation of his weekly programme. My elderly mother was so enamoured with Mr. Kermode that she did on occasion take to removing the ?Featuring Judge Dredd? subtitle from each issue and replacing it with Mr. Kermode?s appellation.

In closing I would ask that you pay no further attention to the likes of Mr. Hurley and such other miscreants, (who I can only image must be from rival publications intent on sabotaging your readership figures) as Mr. Kermode is quite clearly the most prolific writer since the great Charles Dickens.

Yours in indignation (just outside of Via-E-mail),

Mr. Noah Morningstar Angel

At last, an errudite missive in support of the good Mr. Kermode. Well done sir, an absolutley topping letter, and I commend you heartily for it's wit, strength of character and firm uper teeth. A beazer read, through and through! First Class!

That really is rather wonderful.  If you don't get in with that, there is no justice.

I bought an old issue of the meg when I was out shopping yesterday (because D.R. and Quinch in Hollywood was reprinted in it) and there was a couple of pages of letters in the middle.  Sure enough, old banana in pajamas himself was in there (I agree with him about Lazarus Churchyard).
The man's an institution at this point, surely?  I reckon this Hurley fella is a pseudonum for one of the regular boarders having a laugh, because I don't see why anyone would get upset at someone giving their tuppence on a regular basis in the letters page, especially since he's not only well-reasoned in his comments, but positive about most things in 2000ad anyway.
Perhaps it's a Bison fan* who was upset at Floyd's comments that it was an average strip?

*statistically speaking, there's bound to be one.

This is no reflexion on Floyd but I think I know where the writer is coming from... There must be hundreds of Squaxx who have wrote in over the years and not seen their musings in print..The fact that Floyd appears more times in a year than Johnny Alpha and Rogue put together must annoy a certain %age of readers...especially when most of the time its constructive criticism/adoration of a recent prog..but where Gareth has gone wrong is criticism of Floyd himself rather than the editorial droids who decide what letters to print..I'm sure when they think of compiling a letters page they pay more regard to a letter postmarked Saitama Japan then they would do one say from Droitwich Midlands..its all to do with projecting an image..Japan=international...Droitwich=parochialism..the 1st Image projected is one of international comic read on continents..the next is local fanzine...correct me if i'm wrong
