Mr D

I finally found a comic shop to call my own today. They were nice, chatty, and had a decent enough range - better than what I had before at least. Which was, er, nothing. They were also brilliant because I decided to start working my way through Hellblazer (it was payday, I'd just had a root canal tratment and I've had a shitty week so I can justify the expense) so I got the first two collections of that and two Ultimate X-Men volumes to give that a fair chance (not bad. Not great, but really enjoyable) amd he only charged me ?25.42, which made no real sense but I didn't argue!!

Anyway.... I was wondering whether I should forget X-Men or Hellblazer and get Swamp Thing, which I've been hankering to try for a decent while now. I decided against it simply because they only had volumes 2+. I got home and decided 'sod it, I've worked very hard recently and I saved loadsa cash inexplicably today' and went on Amazon to online-purchase Saga Of The Swamp Thing.

?45. ?45!!!!!! The reasonably priced ones weren't anywhere to be seen!! 'Out of stock' with no indication they'd be getting more at all...

Does ANYONE have a copy they'd be willing to trade for something/monies? Really want to give it a try, I think I'll really enjoy it!

petemaskreplica

45 quid??? that's outrageous! it costs about 10 or 12 quid new. I'll pick up a copy for you if you can't find one locally. It's well worth reading, but be warned, you'll want to pick up all the other Moore books once you've read it :)

eggonlegs

re-swamp thing find and read american gothic f**** great stuff

Oddboy

PJ, that's an insane price!

I picked up Saga of the Swamp Thing from eBay in March for less than a tenner.

You can borrow my copy if you like, so long as I get it back!
Better set your phaser to stun.

I got my copy of Saga on EBAY for under ?8 including postage.

I'm still after bargain books 2, 3 and 5 onwards of the latest vertigo collections.
Cheers

Mr D

Just very quickly, here's the link!

And Marbles, I would normally but I've seen enough and know Moore's writing well enough to want to own a proper copy.

Mr C

Never go for Amazon's Used and New, trust me.
Go for E-Bay, if what you're looking for isn't there, wait a couple of days andit'll be bound to turn up.

Just a couple of the online comic shops I use list it as in stock:

Or you could always do what I did and buy back issues of the originals.

Grrrrr.... you'll need to cut and paste my links into your url bar - my web-fu is obviously not up to scratch.

And by the way, don't forget Hellblazer - it's a cracking series - which two trades did you get?  Most of Jamie Delano's run hasn't been collected yet   although this is likely to be happening in the run-up to the release of the movie.  Each writer has a distinct take on the character and it's worth following through.

Mr D

Mr C - I've never had a problem with Amazon, but I've had quite a few nasty experiences on Ebay. Generally the prices on Amazon are far cheaper than any auctions stay at, and the people tend to be reliable. Just one or two fools trying to charge me 45 snekkin quid for Swamp Thing!!!

Mr D

Amh - I got ORIGINAL SINS and DANGEROUS HABITS. Vertigo list them as being in that order, so I thought I'd pick them up like that. I've already read FREEZES OVER and HAUNTED, but I don't own them.

ORIGINAL SINS I finished tonight and it was pretty damn good. Constantine tends to be a pretty enjoyable character to read and the stories in it swung from original to funny to creepy.

FREEZES OVER I really enjoyed. A lot. It's basicaly the reason I want to get into the series. HAUNTED had it's moments.

Odders - I'd take you up on your offer, but like I said above, I'm pretty sure I'm going to like it so really I'd prefer to get my hands on a 'proper' copy. I'm pretty proud that I finally have something to call a 'collection', and since I got some freebies at the Nerve Centre I haven't got rid of a single thing. I have enough spare cash at the moment to buy some things each week or so to, so I've almost got my first full shelf of stuff :-)

Incidentally, ORIGINAL SINS had an intro by Delano which scared the shit out of me!! He sounded off his trolley, screaming about how he's bought a boat so when we evil capitalists flood the world he can sail between skyscrapers laughing.... It was a pleasant surprise to find he kept all his views from interfering with his stories, and it didn't spoil the book. Just as intros go, it was a bit colourful!!

So fill up your inkwells with blood chaps. Sharpen your bone stylus and stretch your human-skin vellum. If you thought you saw a lightening of the sky, it was but a false dawn, or a reactor fire somewhere just over the horizon

Mr D - you might find this old thread useful...

it lists all the Swamp Thing collections that are available.
