Fuck. That.

I didn't have much time for Pat's complaints about Satanus being written by Gordon Rennie, but I would be very upset - to the point of boycott - if Charley's War was given to Ennis, especially when Pat has, IIRC, expressed an interest in continuing the story.

Leaving aside whether Ennis would be any good at the strip - and he might do a good job, given his run on War Stories - I think it would be a terrible idea to resurrect the story under a different writer.

...and that's before we even get on to the thorny subject of who would be able to replace Joe Colquhoun!

Having read the Lying in the gutters piece, that seems a bit of conjecture by Johnson and has no basis in fact.

Certainly for Charley's War, it's hard to imagine anyone other than Pat doing it.

I'm uncomfortable about all these characters being resurected.  Will the original creators get any royalties?

The Amstor Computer

PVS - I can't see why they would. They're not reprints, and I think that any payment for usage would be made to the companies that own the characters/strips - in this case, IPC - and it would be up to their disgression whether they compensated the writers & artists involved. Maybe I'm being cynical, but I suspect that that's very unlikely.

paulvonscott

I dunno, Alan's on board, he might iask for it.

The Amstor Computer

Alan Barnes? I was thinking more of the rumoured new CW material - I'm sure Pat gets something for the reprints of CW in the Megazine.

paulvonscott

No, I meant Alan moore.  lets face it this project is going ahead only because of him.  Though the rumour of old IPC stuff being used to tempt top brit creators has been buzzing for some time.

"Feck, this war is hell... let's have another Guiness begorrahh!"

Maybe a Johnny Red revival from Ennis is more likely...?

Marbles

Yeh Garth is a *huge* Johnny Red fan. Plus artist John Cooper is still alive, kicking & drawing.

At least a one-off special with those 2 at the helm would be really, er, special.

Moose

perhaps we should ask them both...i'd love to see it, although perhaps that might piss tom tully off as he's very much alive, or was when i last saw him.

Marbles

Moose, you've seen Tom Tully ????!!!

Everyone & his Uncle has been looking for him recently (well me & David Bishop for starters).

I'd love to do an interview with him - the guy is a UK comics *legend*.

"Feck, this war is hell... let's have another Guiness begorrahh!"

And furthermore...

'Ah, Jayzus, feck the trenches, I'm goin' to the feckin' jacks! An' sure Ginger's after gettin' his mickey shot off - the tenth mickey-wound this week, an' all, an' all!'
"Men will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest"

starscape

Tom Tully runs a pub now.  Sorry, I don't know which one but may be able to find out if he is interested in an interview.  Let me know.

Marbles

Well I'd definitely be up for doing an interview !

This guy wrote 'johnny red', 'leopard from lime street' & 'roy of the rovers' amongst many others for donkeys years - he must have plenty of stories, and I've never seen an interview with him
