Firsty, anyone going to Caption, the small press festival/event next weekend?  I might go, still not decided, if I could get a lift, for sure!

As for the others...

Moniaive.  May well go.

Dreddcon.  May go.

Winterfest.  Will go.

Bristol Expo.  Said I'd go.

Generally Contrary

I'd love to go to Caption, but with nothing ready I can't really justify it.

paulvonscott

Ah, shame, anyone know any good cheap hotels/B&B?

It's in Oxford, this upcoming weekend 13/14

Pat Mills, Al Davison, small press galore.

(aaarg, must get to bed before my eyes fall out)

PVS,

if I'm not doing a trip back to Norfolk this weekend I'll be there and if I am I know a cheap place as long as you have a sleeping bag and dont mind a floor.

Will get back to you tomorrow.

Hey Logan

No, I wouldn't mind a floor if there was one going.

Still waiting to see if Griefbringer Clark is going though, so I'm currently balancing the formula of petrol and accomodation.

It's cheap to visit though folks, ?10 waged, ?5 unwaged for the weekend and there is a stall to sell your small press stuf and they only charge 10% of cover price for the honour.

I want to do it at least once, and if I put it off, I'll never go.

Bugger,

Didn't know about that one, would've quite like to have gone.  And I am over towards Oxford this weekend...

Unfortunately we have a family reunion on the Sunday and a party in London on the Saturday evening, so really can't...

Yep, I'll be at CAPTION. Prolly not Moniaive, but deffo DreddCon and WinterFest. Dunno about Bristol October-thing yet. Most definitely Comics 2005, regardless where it finally happens (last I heard was Brighton). And SDCC 2005 if I can persuade the Powers That Be ;)

Brighton eh? Well that would improve my chances of swinging back in from yankieland for it.

Generally Contrary

Brighton would do for me.  My girlfriend's family seems to have dispersed itelf to comic convention spots.  Bristol, London, now Brighton.  Just got to convince my brother to move to Angouleme...

Caption: no plans, but you never know
Moniaive: quite likely
Dreddcon: unfortunately, no.
Winterfest: well, I might make a brief appearance Saturday morning, but I'm otherwise engaged afternoon/evening. I'd be around Friday and Sunday if there's drinking afoot, though.
Bristol Expo: no plans, but you never know.

Thought I'd bumpt this up a bit.

Still intending to go, fate, weather, ability to print, fold and staple comics and all the rest permitting.

Hope to see some of you there

Paul

Caption: Yup, Mrs Logan is working so I said no worries I'm sure there must be something to do in Oxford. No point travelling home if I'm not going to see you 8-?

Moniaive: Yup, annual jaunt across the northern border.

Dreddcon: Hopefully, have to put in my leave pass straight after Moniaive.

Winterfest:  Nope, Travel to London, pay London prices for everything just for a day.

Bristol Expo: Nope.

I really enjoyed that!

It was a small press convention, with Shane from Smallzone with a table, a few others and the communal comics selling table, which was a great idea.  More festivals should do it!!!  It left everyone free to do stuff and chat.

Got to chat to loads of people, people I knew, people I knew on a nodding basis, new people, great!  A real social event.

There was always a talk to go to.  I really enjoyed the Al Davison one (they needed a PA system) but the talk and Al's film was a joy to listen to.

Pat Mills two talks, were hugely entertaining and informative.  One on Charley's War, and the other a talk hosted by Jenni Scott about British comics (and Jinty).  He was very approachable and friendly, and I didn't hear anything but really positive response from everyone, and he really enjoyed the festival, his first UK convention for years.

And he bought a copy of Big War Comic and Sunny for Girls I found out (I of course was too chicken shit to give him a copy).  Seemed to like the idea, and Art will be relieved (or very very dissapointed) he didn't bat an eyelid at Lord Charley's War.  He got what we were doing and was really good humoured about it all.

If you like Small Press comics, or are interested in the whole scene, Caption is a great weekend, one (if not the) best festival/convention I've been to.

Lastly a big thanks to Logan, sorry I didn't see you go, but cheers for everything, much appreciated!

It was absolutely fantastic!  Spoke to Pat Mills in the bar (with Paul) after the talk.

Absolutely fascinating stories about old editors, the Spanish artists, the non-credited creators.  Wonderful!
