I don't feel too ripped of as I got the double DVD for under a tenner. As long as the extras arn't just a load of Shaun promo material it aught to be worth a look. Then again, I'd just buy it for the cover... Spaced fans are fanatical enough to splash out on this.

Megadeth

Yep i've had my single DVD's for ages but i will be buying this and certainly wont feel ripped off.

It'll give me a chance to spread the Spaced by giving my old copies to my brother.

I'll be the proud owner of the videos as well. In all I'll have spent a good ?50 or so on Spaced. ?25 per series isn't bad for 3 and a half hours of one of the best sit-coms ever, though.

Bad Andy

Feel slightly ripped off because this is exactly the sort of thing they'd have a go about in the show (although as far as I'm aware they haven't).

Plus I'm going to miss out on a third disc, because I aint buying it again.

And with regards to commentaries - I've started watching the third series of League of Gentlemen again yet strangely I find it funnier with the commentary on.

Generally Contrary

Gavzilla, this isn't analogous with books coming back into print.  The 'new foreword by the author' and the like are often the authors reflections on the current topicality of the book, or short essays on various aspects of the book.  Reflections can only come after the event.  In other cases, books are updated to take account of recent developments.

In many cases the release of special edition DVDs includes material that could certainly have been available at the time of first publication.  They could have been included in the original DVD release.  The aim of special edition DVDs is not to honestly update the film, nor to provide an edition of the film that includes retrospective essays and documentaries.  The main aim of special edition DVDs is to persuade people who already own the film that they don't have the 'real' version.  This is a clever way to minimise the effect of the second-hand/clearance stock market too.

Gav:

I take your point, but this isn't just a new foreword or slightly different packaging, and most publishers don't release a "special edition" of their titles with added chapters 6-12 months after the book hits the shelves.

It might look like a great deal for someone who doesn't own the DVDs already - or for a fan who doesn't mind spending quite a chunk of money on multiple copies of, essentially, the same DVDs - but from my POV, it looks like another attempt to get me buy a set of DVDs I already own.

I hoped the've bunged in a load of extra cgi crap in the background...

...the extras? You get to listen to Nick Lee...

Thanks to Mr Dribbles, I have the first series for free.  As I was never going to spend yer actual cash on it, this doesn't hurt the Spaced team's profits in any way.  Now that a new set's coming out, someone'll chuck the old ones out... and I'll be waiting.  Eventually, if that doesn't work, I'll get hold of them in a charity shop or market for about 50p.

The point?  Everybody wins in this game.
