++they were only *stored* on the ship, not laid. That's why they are arranged in neat rows, and more importantly contained behind a force field. ++

Yeah, makes sense to me so far.

++ According to press relase from the time of the film (which has been expanded on ever since), the Alien was a bio-weapon developed/enhanced by the Space Jockeys race.++

Didn't know this but again, sounds good to me.


++ The Space Jockey had fallen foul of one of the eggs himself, leading him to land the ship and trigger the warning beacon (Bio-Hazard). This was later intercepted by the Nostromo and assumed to be a distress beacon. ++

Yes, this new information (to me) makes things fit better, like the idea of the Bio-Hazzard warning.
