Don't know if it's related, but my version of Nero has just packed up on me too.
(I was going to make a back-up cd of the ZoneAlarm programs I've just bought and downloaded, as I didn't purchase the extra year long download option)

I've tried uninstalling it, rebooting, and reinstalling it, but it didn't help :-(

I'm a ZONEALARM fan as well.

Norton Anti-Virus recently caught a virus for me but somehow my outlook inbox got deleted.  I was looking for Powequest Lost and Found (someone said it was a free data recovery thing) but Symantec seem to have bought and hidden it.  Can anyone recommend anything else?  (Btw I've looked in my identities and there is an inbox there, it's just empty and hence not my old one).

And while we are all being Alpha Geek, I think I want to start getting rid of spyware and things. Can anyone recommend a free download for that?
Be excellent to each other. And party on!

Re: Spyware, as mentioned above, when I bought ZoneAlarm, I also bought Pest Patrol with it, (essentially getting it for free as part of the bundle).

At the moment I'd recommend that. (But you'll have to pay for it ($39.95 or free with ZoneAlarm Pro)

I've previously used AdAware from Lavasoft, but I ran this before I installed Pest Patrol, then installed and ran Pest Patrol, and Pest Patrol, caught 50 "pests" that AdAware didn't!

I've just had a thought why Nero might not be working... I've just installed  RealPlayer, and I believe there's a burning program on that, which could be causing a conflict.

Investigation time again!

It's ironic that you've bought anti-spyware stuff and then installed RealPlayer(!)

If you want to avoid all the crap and background stuff that Real can add, use the alterative codec. Same goes for Quicktime.

Real player was installed prior to buying anti-spyware. (I didn't know there was a problem with it is there?)
I also have a full working version of quicktime- no problem there though, last time I checked.
I have Real Player, so that I can play UK radio stations over the net- and 40 metres of cable, mean I can blast it into the hifi in the sitting room too!

There isn't a problem with Real or Quicktime, it's just that they're quite bloated (especially Real) and can add numerous background tasks, consuming memory and CPU. Some versions of Real can also 'report back', which is what Spyware does of course.

Essentially they're fine, I'm just getting over-protective. It all depends how geeky you want to get about things like that.

So, Is it ZoneAlarm, or Pest Patrol, that keeps making that annoying "Blop!" noise, and WTF does it mean?

ZoneAlarm will notify you of all traffic, but you can turn that off on the "Main Alerts & Logs" tab. Dunno if it's that which makes a sound though?

Don't have Pest Patrol so not sure about that - sorry :-(
