Thought you might like this, Mark Millar sends the hulk, capt america etc into the middle east, who's taking bets on how long it is before he's dumped?

Well, it makes a difference from Andy Diggle's Muslim peados.  Now, it's not that there's anything wrong with writing stories that tackle this, but when Americans are capable of awarding a anti-Islamic hate site like LGF one of the Washington Post awards, that is the last thing they need to be reading.

Well, that and 'Saddam Hussein' from the 'Dictators of the Twentieth Century' series - an absolute pile of rubbish from start to finish.

?This, of course, is all ripped from the headlines. The US military have already developed soldiers who can be on full alert for two weeks without sleep and are very close to creating the conditions where wounded troops can repair their injuries with a healing factor. Science fiction is always just 10 minutes into the future.?

Now, I'm as paranoid as the next man ... but "very close" to human healing factors?!

Though I'm slightly more disturbed by the 'poll' at the bottom:

How will history remember Yasser Arafat?
Terrorist
Freedom Fighter

Since when was history THAT simple? And when did history 'remember' people?

"Well, it makes a difference from Andy Diggle's Muslim peados."

Well, I'm glad someone else has noticed this. Diggle's "Muslim" and "Arab" characters in The Losers have been *appalling* and they were a major factor in me dropping the title...

?The best work is always done in the most terrible times as we have something to react against. Superman and Batman were created in the Depression; Spider-Man and the X-Men around the time of the Kennedy assassination. What?s bad for the world tends to get creative juices flowing. That?s the little silver lining. ?

Now that's not bad at all... in one sentence setting yourself up among Siegel and Shuster, Kane and Stan Lee!

'he moved to Marvel with a mission to reinvent its tired characters.'

In the same way he reinvented Dredd - by disregarding characterisation of long-standing characters created by people with talent, who worked in the industry for years and had a genuine love of the medium and its fans.  And didn't Warren Ellis create the whole Midnighter/Apollo thing?

I think it's telling that the only books he's ever written that have been popular are the ones featuring characters created by other people.  Do you remember that character he created that really fired up your imagination - the one who'll be around in comics for years to come?
Exactly.

apparently in America its a well known fact, if you get shot you just run over a medipak to boost your health back up to 100%, then frag the fucker who shot you with the BFG while performing a rocket jump assisted backflip off the nearest bounce pad.

WTF? super-soldiers? yeah right. Miller is insain.

Floyd-the-k

an interesting link there, thanks for that.
Millar makes some good points in that article.

a quibble: "science fiction is always only ten minutes in the future"? Really? So time travel should have been developed in 1910 (or whatever year came ten years after publication of the H.G. Wells book).

Max Kon

surely if it was ten mins into the future evry sci-fi story ever writen would shortly be followed by it happenening, 10 mins later.

Jared Katooie

Max, thats exactly what Floyd was saying!

I think Millars story should upset people who are trying to bury their heads in the sand. For that alone it should be commended.

You eeeediot Max!

Just kiddin' dude. Peace out!

JK.

'HE created the world?s first gay comic book stars'

I found this first line amusing, like the guy that introduced the Falcon created black americans.

Worse than this, CrossGen, prior to going under, had a title planned called 'American Power' which basis was US superheroes beating up the rest of the world.
