The Enigmatic Dr X

I regularly visit:

The Register
The Inquirier
BBC
Metacritic
Yahoo!

For job related stuff, I tend to Google it and not go anywhere specific.

If it helps, most of the stuff I need to know is on a CD I get updated monthly and which has a whole sprawling database of legal stuff on it.

Theres only one real news source you need...

Blimey, that Veritas site is certainly cheap 'n' cheerful. But I suppose that's a good thing. Doesn't look very accessible - shall we report them?

Demon Chicken

newscientist.com

generally a nice up-to-date-ish roundup of various sciency type things.
also thescotsman.com/evening news for when I want to hear tales of the glorious homeland

Byron Virgo

Best news service I ever used was Reuters when I was editing a paper at school, but you can't get it that easily (I think you have to subscribe) and they aren't averse to throwing in the odd fake news item.

Sincere thanks to all who helped!

Now I'm fully equipped for bullshitting on these new-fangled non-paper-newspapers!

doh !  a) i'm no longer academic b) i'm too late c) what is news...

but i find the local newspaper home sites can be rather hit n miss, sometimes carrying more info than that days/ weeks paper, other times wi nowt on, but theyre still worth scanning. theres links to & from highland region site, & Hi Arts site is a good way of linking into the arts & arty business news jobs stuff.

(tordelbach !? archeologist ? remind me to bore you about my crannog finds sometime,  like the poor time team bloke i met yesterday... i get excited about these things)

Trout

Run and hide, Tordelbach. She'll have you digging up her garden any second. :-)

BTW, to Gary: I know you're kidding about the "homework" comment, but wanted to add that I'm quite capable of doing research myself.

However, I reckoned the netheads here wouldn't just be good for suggestions; you'd also be a good guide to what's popular and effective.

It's really a starting point for my bullshit.

Thanks again, everyone - even Bou!

Unless it's one of your practical jokes...

Hurrah! Mos News is easily as good as Pravda for the weird stuff.
