And another book is on the shelves and another review thread is started and another reason to give Tharg money and another reason to praise Smith, Yeowell, Macneil, and Jock, and so on and so and so on from now til Shatterlight.

Impressed with what they've done with the cover. Was never that impressed by it when it was on the comic first time around but they've altered the background and made it much more appealing and atmospheric. Looks much nicer than the first volume.

As for the contents, well I'm not going to review the stories as such as there's not much point in that. If you liked them first time around you'll want to buy this, if you didn't you won't. I obviously liked them enough to buy it and hope there's enough Devlin material out for third volume one day. Tip and top.

In terms of the reproduction there's a distinct variation between pages in the Yeowell drawn section. On the whole it looks belting, the odd page lets the side down. The Macneil drawn section is the equal to the Megs printing, if not better.

Worth noting that after the first section of the first story the episode numbers and next issue blurbs fall away and the stories are presented without them. Wonder why they did this part way through a story?

Extra stuff? The intro page is nicely done and hopefully helps make the book more appealing to newbies? But are there any people who'd put down ?16 for a book they don't know? Anyway, nicely done. The covers gallery is appreciated and the Jock pages are a fascinating glimpse at an alternate take on the opening. Sadly we don't get to see Jocks take on Devlin - that's something I'd have been very interested to see.

Overall this is one of the better books they've put out so far. My only niggle? I'd rather Chasing Herod were twinned up with the Pussyfoot 5 stories in this volume leaving 'Red Tide' to be collected with more recent material - but that's not an opinion I expect many would share.

Nice work, QXM/DXB. My copy should be winging its way to me today, so I'll fire up some scans here when it arrives.

F.P. in Manchester had a decent amount of copies in on Wednesday. On closer examination the ropier scanning appears limited tot he first part of the first story, which co-incidentally still has the signs of being in the prog. Were the rest of the pages sourced from elsewhere?

The Amstor Computer

Hm. Dunno - perhaps the move to digital happened earlier than Rebellion taking over 2000AD? Or perhaps Steve Yeowell still had most of the art for Chasing Herod?

Either way, if it's an improvement on the ropey printing in Dante & the shocking reprint on Swimming in Blood, I'll be happy. Really looking forward to seeing how the Rebellion-era stuff looks, though...

I had a thumb-through the new edition yesterday and I *love* it!  I can't wait to pick up my copy Saturday!  The new, red background to the cover looks fantastic - what an excellent choice!  The printing and repro is very good, and both the MacNeil and Jock pages look wonderful.

Well, my copy of Red Tide arrived today & it's absolutely fucking magnificent.

The reproduction quality is leaps & bounds beyond what we've seen in some previous Rebellion/DC trades. In particular, Steve Yeowell's art is crisp, clear & bright, with only a couple of panels showing any scanning artifacts. Colin Macneil's art is gorgeous, and I'll second DXB's comments above - this looks *better* than it did in the Megazine!

I'm just starting my re-read of Sirius Rising, so I'll leave you all with some cover scans and this:

Rebellion have done a marvellous job in presenting these stories, and they've done the creators proud. I'd have no hesitation about recommending this book to any comics fan, and I'd urge anyone who enjoys Devlin Waugh to go and buy this now.

Well done, guys!

Not a massive fan of Pussyfoot 5 but I think what you say makes a lot of sense-after all we've got a six part story coming up, plus the 10pages special. So add that to Red Tide and you'd probably have a third book before you know it, all from the same creative team.

Art

Interesting - this one seems to be a lot better distributed in America than the rest (ie I've actually seen it one or two places).

The Amstor Computer

Good - it deserves more exposure, because it's one of the best books so far in the Rebellion/DC line. Pimp it to your friends, peeps - this is excellent stuff!
