I need to convert a load of wma music files to mp3.  Anyone recommend something they use?

Thanks.

I think for WMA you might have to install an additional codec...

If they aren't DRM encoded WMA files then iTunes will do it.  Make sure your preferences are set to rip to mp3 at your desired bit rate.

Add the wma files to your library (I think).

Select them all and choose "Convert to MP3" from one of the menus.

It they a protected WMA files, you are stuffed

Cheers Dankell, I've tried this but I can only get the option to convert to ACC files and nothing else...possibly another codec issue maybe?

WoD

or are ACC files mp3 by another name (I'm really dumb today)?

Glad to see you'd got it, only had a few chances to drop in today, as I've been in Edinburg rather than the normal office.

Just for anyone who might remember this thread and want answers to your questions

AAC are different to MP3.  Apple claim better encoding results (they would do, they own the patent or whatever).  However it has the advantage of being an open standard.  More importantly tracks bought from the iTunes music store are encoded iin protected AAC format.

Itunes defaults to ripping CDs to unprotected AAC files.  However this can be changed to MP3 in the preferences.  The "Convert to..." menu gives whatever is set as default.
