The ending of Watchmen (mild spoiler)

I think the point of Jon's last comments to Ozzy (and the existence of you-know-who's diary) is that the peace he has artifically created is a fragile and temporary one.

If you go back to post 9/11 there was an uniting of the world with the Europeans rushing to help the Americans, etc, etc. However very soon the underlying tensions that had caused strains in their relationship pre-9/11 once again took centre stage.

So Watchmen is still genius and the idea that the world would unite if faced with a big enough threat is a good one...but Moore's clever enough to (cover his ass by) say that it will be temporary.
