...for my sins im a bit of a Who fan, if anyone watches the show tonight id love to know their first reactions here, personaly ived avoided as many trailers, articles and general talk about the show so that i can watch it at 7pm with an open mind...

The Amstor Computer

That was fucking fantastic!

First reactions:

There were some minor flaws, and some dodgy CGI, but the sheer pace and fun of it, combined with Ecclestone & Piper's performances made for a great opening episode. It's set up nicely now for the next 12 episodes, and I'm really, really looking forward to next week - something I didn't imagine I'd be saying!

As I said on the other thread: Thought that was fan-bloody-tastic. Pacy, clever, nice nods to the fans, a good starter for non-Who fans and kids ...

In short - I can't bloody wait till next week!

Never thought it would be that good. Any doubts I had about Eccleston were dispelled as he settled into the role. Piper was, bizarrely, superb - gave a real nice realistic edge to it all.

CGI was occasionally dodgy but the script was pure gold!

Personally, I was surprised at how quickly the writers managed to establish both Rose & The Doctor - I didn't clock it, but you'd already got a feel for Rose before she even got her first proper lines (in the basement of the department store). It only took a scene or two for Ecclestone's Doctor to establish himself, and the dynamic between Rose & The Doctor was nicely judged.

Given everything that had to be crammed in, a new Doctor & assistant to introduce & the weight of expectation, this was a great intro to the new series.

Did it still have that shitty incidental music playing in the background of scenes, ruining them?

ARRISARRIS

...loved every moment of it, its definately new who, just it doesnt seem to have moved that far away from the style of the Paul McGann tv movie, but i loved the fast moving pace, makes a change from the old plodding Dr whos...

The Amstor Computer

Still quite a bit of background music, but nothing that I thought was that heavy-handed - but having not seen the leaked episode, I can't really comment.

Natsan

It was.....ok.

As with all of the Doctor's assistants though I am already finding Rose irritating.Could she possibly have gawped mindlessly for any longer while the dummy held the antiplastic convieniently over the plasticmind thingy?Sheesh!

Slippery PD

Yeah it was OK to good in places.  I watched it with my 6 year old who was pretty impressed.

It had great energy and Ecclestons performance was good.  Im not totally sure about the humour, as some of it seems misplaced.  But its far better than some of the stuff I remember...

I immediatly sent a big fat letter to SFX complaining about it....what a twat I am.
I hated it to be honest, but it has the potential to get a lot better, the next episode did, like a big fat slice of SCI-FI cake, and that's nice cake.
Cake that I'm not ashamed to eat
Cake with more weird aliens that Billi Piper's stupid head, which can't be a good thing
Cake which won't have GRAHAM BLEEDIN NORTON in it
...hopefully
..because that isn't a nice puddin'
no sir
that's a sour puddin
with gooseberries in it
and no-one bothered shaving the gooseberries

because that would be weird
...and the cake ended up hairy because of it
..but no one blames you, because think about it, would you like to be caught shaving a barrel of gooseberries on Ash Wednesday, wearing a hat made from fish?
hell no
So put yourself in his shoes, I do

Although they're wet shoes

because he went fishing and he got excited and ran in after the fish, exercising total anti-stealth.

..what where we talking about?

longmanshort

Yes, I imagine the SFX e-mail inbox is going to be positively bulging come Tuesday morning ... ;)

And, to my shame, I now have a nice, spanking new Dr Who ringtone ... someone help me, please!

I'm a big Wgo fan of old, but I very much enjoyed it.

The show was very snappy, almost frenetic, and was very much a 21st Century Tv show, yet still managed moments for us oldies to get all wet eyed about.

Eccleston brought a number of elements from previous Doctor's to the role (Baker grinning insanity, Colin Baker's arrogance, etc) yet managed to make the character his own. Piper was a very good sidekick, coming over as a cross between a young Sarah Jane and a modern version of Ace.

The story itself left a little to be desired being rather simplistic, but that can often be the case with origin/intro stories as there are many things to cram in, and many things to bring the audiance up to speed on.

Some of the humour didn't work, some of it did extremely well (loved the big wheel gag), and I did think that the man-eating-wheelie bin was a no-no (but this was counter-acted by an excellent "Attack of the Autons" scene.

Like others, I avoided the leaked episode but I only once noticed dodgy incidental music in the whole 45 mins.

I watched it with my 11 year old, who thought it fantastic, and my 2 year old, who was scared witless and had to be taken out of the room (bad parent that I am).

For me a very, very good start, with the promise of improvements to come!

Alan!
