i heard today that simon pegg looks set to play 'Rorshach' in watchmen. i don't know what to make of this...on the one hand, he's great and on the other, it's a hard role.

what's everyone thinking?

If that's true it's the worst piece of casting I can think of in recent memory.

I think Mr. Pegg's brilliant in the roles he's played:  but they've hardly been diverse, have they?

He plays a happy go lucky everyman.  Everytime.  He always has his blonde locks and his cheeky grin.  Nothing I've ever seen him do remotely resembles "gritty", so I just can't see it working.

In fact, I don't believe it's true.

I like Simon Pegg, and recognised he can do 'serious' in his all-too-brief role for Band Of Brothers.

However, there's only one Rorshach and that's Tim Roth ;)

Obviously you're not a golfer.

No no no no no!
It's David Caruso.http://www.tvtome.com/images/people/1/6/38-11088.gif">

Rac, unless you are joking you are going straight to hell to burn in a lake of turds and wasps!

The only good performance I've seen Caruso do is when he dies off-screen in King of New York.

[Interestingly, I've been listening to Tim Roth (from Alan Clarke's Made in Britain) on my walkman all day, and that is the most convincing suggestion I've heard for Rorshach yet...]

Richmond Clements

He's ginger!
He's ugly!
What more do you want??

Byron Virgo

Agreed, but he's also an irritating tit, and I'm not prepared to see that monkey-whore get even a second more screen time!

I mean, if those are the only qualifications, why not hire Chris Evans? Or Gonch, from Grange Hill?

Mike Carroll

Actually, I kind of agree with Rac; Caruso looks the part. However, Simon Pegg (or someone else who is largely unknown to the movie-going public) would be a better choice for Rorschach if they follow the plot of the graphic novel; otherwise, we'll all see the actor on-screen going around with his "The End is Nigh" sign and think "Oh, that's so-and-so. Clearly, they wouldn't give him such a small roll, so therefore he becomes important later on."

Not happening. It's an old internet rumour from back when Darren Aronofsky was still directing. Simon Pegg was sent a copy of the screenplay, and happened to mention in an interview that he'd love to play Rorschach. There's been no official (or even reliable unofficial) casting news yet.
Dan Dare will return for a new adventure soon, Earthlets!

Caruso?

*Ahem* I think not ;)

If you want someone who's ginger, ugly and CAN act-

It's Tim.

Another vote for Caruso here.  Yes, he's an irritating little ginga twat who acts in kind of a stilted fashion.

Which blotmask-wearing hero does THAT describe?

Buddy

I always thought Willem DeFoe (sp?) was the man for Roscharcheie (or whatever way it's spelt).

We'll probably end up with Ben Fuckin Affleck.

(this film should never be made, and by all accounts if Sin City is as good a the rumours suggest then Hollywood should wake up to the fact that the creators of these 'funny book stories' should be deeply involved with the production of the film)
