Christopher Eccleston has quit!

Does not want to be typecast, so, who will be the next who?

Apparently odds on favourite is the guy who's now playing Cassanova over on BBC3.

Personally I'd like Eddie Izzard.

paulvonscott

Please, not Eddie Izzard.

And The Who wouldn't be a good idea, even if they could sing My Regeneration.

I'd really like to see an older Dr Who, whether todays little sods would tolerate that or just beat him up and try and steal his pension at conventions is another matter.

The thing is, it's a lot of work, and Eccles put his all into it for 6 days a week, long hours, for 10 months.  So hanging on to a big name for too long is possibly a bit unlikely.

Bill Nighy would be good for a season, a lesser known actor for two seasons perhaps.

Once there is a changeover, I'd really like to see McGann (who was potentially really great) and Eccles come back for a three doctors type affair with the new chap.  I'm a sucker for this sort of thing, and would love to see Eccles, McGann and someone else all bickering at each other.

LARF

Hmmmm.

An older actor would be a good idea, how about: David Suchet, Alfred Molina, William Hurt, Kenneth Brannagh...?

Devons Daddy

bill nighly gets my vote

I'm with David Warner! Who you fighting with?

Matt Timson

I think that doing only one series is a bit feeble myself.  They ought to get an actor to commit to at least three.

Bah!  No staying power!
Pffft...

Dan Kelly

This confirms my biggest fear about Eccleston as the Doctor.  I really doubted he would be there for the long haul - expected him to last more than 13 eps tho'

It's weird, going into it, apart from the BBC's commitment/fan reaction, why would anyone with a fear of being typecast take this gig.... grrr!!

Guy from casanova would be a good choice tho'.  Puts a downer on the next episode now...

The timing's a bit off. Seems to me everyone's got a bit carried away - this would have been far better being announced after the series had ended. After such a good first episode, won't we all be watching Mr. Ecclestone somewhat begrudingly now?

Next - how about Ewan Bremner?

M@

WoD

M@ right about the timing...

As for the next Who...Me, me, me, me, me, me, me.

WoD

Oh yeah...and whoever gets it should be contracted to a minimum run like what JEB said.

Tu-plang

I'd have preferred him to do at least two series...  Oh well, there's a Christmas special, maybe he'll do that.

The official line is David Tennant, don't know anything about him, never seen his shows.  Any good?

Oddboy

What's the situation regarding the number of regenerations the Doctor's got left in him?

Isn't there like only 13 regenerations per timelord? Or is that myth? Or is it continuity that's best forgotten?
Better set your phaser to stun.

Tweak72

Ecclestone probably only did it to get his profile up as he didn?t get a part in LOTR
AND when I was a charity mugger he kept me talking for 15 mins but wouldn?t sign on to helping homeless people
As far as im concerned just say no don?t "appreciate" the work the charities doing cos if you did you would support it with your cash
