It's nothing special, even compared to other films very much of their time (The Wizard of Oz, for example). A load of sub-Mills & Boon hogwash that is so overpoweringly bland and sentimentalised that it is enough to make you vomit. Plus the narrative thrid person voice over at the beginning neatly eschews the whole issues of racism and the burgeoning civil rights movement by stating that times were simpler in 'them days' and that people quite enjoyed being slaves on plantations anyway. The casting is, for the most part, pretty dreary - Vivien Leigh should have stuck to acting in the theatre, since the only thing her over the top performance brings up here is my lunch. Even Barabara Stanwyck managaed better performances than that.

Is this in relation to the "As a feminist" comment, because that made me wonder, despite the fact that men can be feminists to.

As it is, I have always assumed that the Professor was a male bear, and a straight one at that.  If it turns out that in fact it is a lesbian bear, then all my assumptions will have been overturned:  something that only happens 34 times a week.

and there were as experiment carried out in the states, they put male flies into sealed petrie dishes in pairs. some male flys started singing mating songs to other flys, sometimes the other was recepting, others just ignored the gay fly, but the majority actually attacked the gay flies. So gay bashing is a natural thing.

Hummm I don?t agree the two things I have found about feminism is that:
1: now two feminists can agree on the principles of feminism (but when you look into it that?s not as daft as it sounds)
2: apart from its a movement/philosophy for women founded by women and by definition if you haven?t got XX chromosomes you don?t have the understanding and experience or correct sex to be one (though you can be a male supporter of the feminist ideals or at least most of them depending on your point of view in the minefield of different and sometimes opposing philosophies that are feminism)

Having worked with mosquitos for some time, this buisness about gay flies being beaten up whilst singing sounds suspiciously like a load of tommy rot to me.

You do get homosexual bees though.

Speaking as a beekeeper of some years' standing, I can say with certainty that you don't get lesbian bees.

Gay swans are quite common, on the other hand.

The lack of lesbian bees might be due to their decreased numbers, in comparison to male bees, so there is an exponentially incresed need to stay on the 'correct' biological side of the fence.
