Hate is such a negative emotion.

Having said that, in the spirit of answering the thread title, I'd have to make mention of Margaret Thatcher, for reasons *way* too numerous to go into here...

JimBob

I'm probably leaving myself open for abuse here but... Thatcher was not very pleasant but she was neccesary. Britain really was declining at a great speed when she came to power, and the fact that Britain is not now in the state that we were heading to in the 70's is basicaly down to her. We're all still to close to her time in office to really criticise objectively and I think history will be much lkinder to her than the stock Guardian view is now.
Oh god I'm going to be cruicified.

Oddboy

I think you're right.
Let's get lynched together?
Better set your phaser to stun.

One word, JimBob: Pinochet.

JimBob

Ok word assocaition game

Churchill - Stalin
Lenin (who some people still love) - Kaiser Wilhelm.
Blair - The house of Saud

Show me a European political leader in the last two centuries who hasn't got into bed with some one who's morally reprehensible. Pinochet was an ally in the Falklands war and Real Politik suggests it was right to cultivate him, but his criems pale against Stalins and no one blames churchill for thta alliance.
Thatcher's friendship with Pinochet is different from an alliance and you may finds it morally reprehensible but he is no worse than many of out current allies in the "war against terrorism"

Stalin played a big part in you not singing "Deutschland uber alles ist" instead of "God save the Queen".

That was a necessary evil. I think Tony Blair sucking GW's dick is not.

The only thing Maggie did to piss me off was back down on Northern Ireland.

JimBob

Not disagreeing with you I just think picking out Thatcher as especially evil is naive. Lets be honest here their is no such thing as an ethical foriegn policy. On Blair I find him excrutiatingly embarrasing and it's interesting to see how close he is to Bush and Berlusconi, both borderline facists in my opinion.

O Lucky Stevie!

just a quick shout out to everyone here on the crisis! message board today.

"need to examine uncritical times"--stereolab, 'new orthony'

"We'll send all these nasty words to Aunt Jane. Don't you think that would be fun?"
