does anybody remember the transformers comics from the 1980's. if so how much do you think they are worth now. they are the ones that were sold in the uk. i was told they are worth nearly nothing, but it was an unreliable source. i even have issue one! HELP!

Ive read a graphic novel from my local library (there normally 3 comics bundled together in hardback.) It was a quite new one (proberbly 2000/2001 ish)it was called 'All fall down'.The one before the last one.Im a big fan myself.Had all the toys!!

Whoever told you they were worth nothing was clearly trying to make a quick killing.

I find it hard to believe, but Transformers comics are now very collectable, being in vogue due to the old ageing readership nostalgia equation.

My local comic shop (well, it's in Glasgow, only sixty miles away) even has a sign in the window asking for the damn things.

Personally, I would point out they were never brilliant (cue big argument, but this is IMHO, emphasis on H) but they do have the work of the odd decent artist/writer in them, giving curiosity value.

Be very, very, careful before you unload a full collection, Russell.

I've never sold any comics (well, once, and I regretted it later) so I'm not up on prices, but I do know you may have a few hot potatoes there.

Do your research.

Any clued-up dealers out there?

As we're reprinting most of the 80s TF stuff - we started with the US and will soon be doing UK - your best chance is probably to offload them onto a collector, rather than someone who just wants the stories.

Ebay is almost certainly a good bet, especially as there seems to be a lot of buzz on TF atm.

I thought they were great, and they were the first real comics I read (after the Beano). I particularly liked Dan Reed's artwork on 'Legacy of Unicron', but the 'Primal Scream', 'All Fall Down', and 'End of the Road' are all later American stories - I always prefered the British ones.

I didn't realise that they were worth something (I had every issue from 17 to the very end, and that's a lot), but I ditched them years ago, they were pretty dog eared. There does seem to have been a renaissance recently, because only 5 or so years ago I saw a huge box of them in a comic shop for about 20p each, old ones too.
