Does anyone know what the PSI on Judge Andersons badge means? I have never really thought about it before.

Tiplodocus

Er... PSI Division.  The people she works for.
Be excellent to each other. And party on!

malkymac

DUH! I figured that much out, what does PSI stand for?

The Amstor Computer

PSI is, AFAIK, an abbreviation of psionic, as TEK & MED are abbreviations of technology and medical.

I always (and still do) read it as P.S.I. rather than Psi even though I knew it wasn't really. And I.S.O. Cubes rather than Iso Cubes.  That's how I first interpreted them & I like them that way so SCREW YOU GUYS -- I'M GOING HOME.

P.S. What does AFAIK mean?

As Far As I Know (I think)

Isn't it fortunate that Anderson has PSI on her badge, as her name probably wouldn't fit.

stodge

i read it as P.S.I. as well although i do read it as Iso-cubes.

AFAIK = As Far As I Know......

I used to think that as well but a Judge Janus strip a few years ago had the villain referring to her as Janus PEE ESS EYE! Also when I checked out Collins dictionry today the word psionic did not exist. I like to think I was always right in thinking it was an abbreviation of 'Psionic' but then wtf does  that really mean?

>>>I used to think that as well but a Judge Janus strip a few years ago had the villain referring to her as Janus PEE ESS EYE!<<<

...And this would be the first time a comic has ever contradicted itself? ;-)

>>>Also when I checked out Collins dictionry today the word psionic did not exist<<<

Neither does mine. However, it also seems to be missing quite a few other words that crop up in 2000AD regularly :-)
The word does exist & is recognised in some circles, even if it hasn't qualified for entry into Collins.

>>>I like to think I was always right in thinking it was an abbreviation of 'Psionic' but then wtf does  that really mean?<<<

The generally accepted meaning of "psionic" is basically the same as "psychic", though with perhaps slightly more emphasis on active rather than passive mental powers.

Oddboy

Psionic sounds more scientific than psychic.  The Judges wouldn't put a lot of faith in psychic hocus pocus but if they knew the psionic thing was soundly based in science then they could justify the huge budget they obviously spent setting up the department.

I just made all that up - but it could be true.
