Oddboy

I could work that out, but you've not given a time-frame.

For example:

how much wood COULD a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood, in kilos, in 3 hours.

16kilos.
Better set your phaser to stun.

Dudley

OK, then, how much wood could an average woodchuck chuck over a distance of 0.5 metres in the space of 3 hours if a woodchuck could chuck wood?http://www.sciencecenterct.org/exhibits/utc/images/woodchuck2.jpg">

Lobo Baggins

Never mind that, how many bicycles could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck bicycles if it's raining on his wedding day in Beijing?

SamuelAWilkinson

I don't really think he'd bother if it was his wedding day. He'd be too busy, y'know, getting married.
Nobody warned me I would be so awesome.

Lobo Baggins

Is he chucking them into the canal?

Possibly - thus removing them from play (as per HoU's ruling), therefore muddying that waters of the 'Number of bicycles' question even further.

Those pesky woodchucks!

So, does anyone have any objection to these revised lyrics?

There *might* be nine million bicycles in Beijing, although it could reasonably be assumed to be anything up to twenty nine million, one hundred and twenty thousand.
That's a very rough estimate based un some quite shaky figures.
It's a thing we could argue about for days without a more controlled study.
Like the fact that I will love you till I die.
Or at least until I need a suitable subject for an angst-ridden ballad, whichever comes first.
Dan Dare will return for a new adventure soon, Earthlets!

"The number of bicycles in Beijing has continued to increase over the past few years, reaching 10 million by the end of last year."

(China Daily November 20, 2002)

"Number of bicycles: 8 million"

(Beijing Fact Sheet, 2005)

"Estimates of the number of bicycles in the city range from 4 million to 10 million."

(Jonathan Watts in Beijing, The Gruniad, 2005)

ha- thats right Satanist, but I have to admit Adrian makes a strong point

but surely the point is the overall shitness of Katie Melua?

Dudley

According to the Cycling Association of China, bicycle ownership was an average of 142.7 bikes per 100 households in 2002 compared to 182.1 in 1998. In Beijing, only 20 percent of commuters rode bikes in 2002, compared to 60 percent in 1998.

Think I?ve got it figured out:

Irony = (Good fortune / Unattainability of Benefit) x Interconnectedness of the two

Love = Undeniability of Fact x (Beijing / Nine Million Bicycles)

Who DID put the bop in the bop-shoo-bop-shoo bop?

Yes, who was that man?

I'd like to shake his hand.
