Was just thinking how much UK comics (Ok 2000 & the Black Library/GW stuff) are reliant on these 3 writers. I mean if Wagner, Rennie and Abnett were struck down by Thrill Sucker rays from the Planet Zog tommorow (always a danger) , who could fill their shoes (and voluminous page space) from the ranks of the up and coming ??

Well Mike Carey has only written two stories and a few future shocks, so he isn't such a regular. Beore Carver Hale, I don't think he wrote anything for 2k. Or hardly anything!

Steve Moore has become a regular contributor since the year 2000. Some wish he hadn't.P

I think the only other writer to mention is Pat Mills - although he hasn't done anything since the ABC story of last year.

Pat are you coming back to 2k?

Ad Si Spurrier to that of course.  That means we have nine.  Though obviously some contribute more that others.

Certainly Pat MIlls' presence in 2000AD is sorely missed.  Though not the khaotik pagans. Sorry.

Yeh but on the bigger picture look at the shed load of stuff Rennie & Abnett do for GW as well. So mebbe there's a big five with Morrison and Grant.

I guess what I'm getting at really is there doesnt seem to be many newbies coming through - Mike Carey's "13" is cause for hope tho'.

Btw is that Zarjaz any good - any decent writers there ?

A writer needs one thing to succeed.

It isn't talent.

It's luck. Good fortune, kismet etc. Whatever you wanna call it. I really do believe that.

No disrespect to M Carey, but I found his Carver Hale to be one of the worst 2k stories I have ever read and now he is signed to DC!

Well both Carver Hale and 13 look like job applications for Hellblazer.  What seemed ridiculous to us may seem very british and cockerney to the yanks.

I know this is going off topic but this is something people might forget:

Whenever you read a book, watch a film/tv actor, listen to a recording artist etc, they are the 1% who got lucky.

Sure they may have talent but they beat the odds and got through that final auditon/interview etc.

Next time you read a book or watch a film, remember that they are the lucky ones. We forget about that.

The other 99% out there are trying to break in!

Better enjoy 13 while you can. Mike Carey has just signed an exclusive deal with D.C. so he's only going to be working for the for the forseeable. It's a one year contract, but with the reviews 'Lucifer' is getting they'll want to keep him.

You gotta feel sorry for Thargy nuturing new talent only for them to wiz off Stateside at the first offer. I mean u can't blame Carey etc but I'm amazed he got snapped up so quick. True '13' is top notch so far ,but its a hardly a full CV is it ? Would have thought a few years on 2000 would have been a minimum 'apprenticeship' before u got looked at. Just shows what little I know !!
