My boy just purchased a copy of The Art of Attack of the Clones.

In it are lots of pictures by the rather fabulous art-droid Dermot Power (I think Book of the Dead was one of his biggies).  I'd forgotten how much I liked his stuff - some of his designs (female Tusken Raiders) are great - lots of real world influences twisted nicely.

It must have been a great job, graduating from 2000AD to work on Star Wars; I don't think it'd be more of a fanboy dream unless he got to play the next James Bond.

Does anyone know of any other 2000AD art droids that have gone the film design/storyboarding route to Hollywood fame?

PS: Possibbly the best bit about the gig would be that he'd get to work with all these great designers, technicians and craftsmen and he would NOT be allowed to look at the terrible script.

PPS: Sorry about the title but it is Eurovision week.

Chris Cunningham/Halls? Didnt he work on Alien3?

Thread Zero

Kev Walker (Sin City, ABC Warriors, Anderson, Balls Brothers) did conceptual art for the 1995 Dredd movie. He went out to LA for a few weeks to draw various designs: Mega City One, uniforms etc.

He got a nice tan too.

Think Chris Halls worked on a Madonna video too? The Gothic one?
Brendan Mac Carthys done design for film too as far as I know

He's not 2K, but Moebius (Jean Giraud) is pretty well established in Hollywood.

Much of The Fifth Element was based on his stuff, especially from Heavy Metal, or whatever they call it in French.

For me, his involvement as designer made a passable film a much more rewarding experience. Visual feast, etc.

Must go and watch that again.

Well, it's not art art droids, but still relevant...

Pete Milligan now writes film scripts in Hollywood.  Not sure what he's done of note, but it'll be good when they get around to making a Bad Company movie.

Wood

Brendan McCarthy designs animated stuff now. He was the art director for ReBoot.

Chris Cunningham did a Madonna Video, but he also did the one for Aphex Twin's Come To Daddy, and Bjork's All Is Full Of Love (the one with the lesbian robots)

JamieB

Brendan McCarthy is also, apparently, a conceptual designer working on the next Mad Max film.

Chris Cunningham is supposed to be involved in a forthcoming comics/movie adaptation, but I forget which one. It's on www.comics2film.com somewhere.

Frank Miller (who nearly did a Megazine cover!) has done lots of work in Hollywood- for example Robocop.

Brendan McCarth is/was doing conceptual artwork for the THUNDERBIRDS movie - but that was ages ago and I'm not even sure if the project is still alive.

Carlos Esquerra produced some designs for the never to be made Strontium Dog movie/TV series.

Chris Halls designed the Dredd uniform (well the helmet anyway, not sure about the rest).

Mike McMahon has done some animation work.

Chris does all of the Aphex Twin videos - fantastic aren't they? - saw an excellent documentary about him on "4 later" (he briefly mentioned tooth).

"I WILL EAT YOUR BRAIN..."

Peter Milligans CV is online, doesn't look like hes got many films made. They all sound pretty ordinary compared with his comics work. A Human Target film, now that would rock.

He actually did produce a cover but it was returned to him as it was crap.

I remember reading that Kevin O'Neil was a designer for some shite called 'Mirrorman' or something like that never saw the light of day. Could be wrong though!

I think this thread has got the makings of a good article for the Megazine.  I'm guessing that there would be some great never seen before art to go with the text.
