If you send sms messages to landlines instead of being read in the normal computerized voice they are now read by Tom Baker.

It's very odd indeed.

Damn them, this is just a way for them to rip money out of me.

Now, where's my mobile phone...

(You could SMS a message to your self which you could then record for use on your answering machine and then have your own custom Tom Baker telephone answering machine message, couldn't you? hmm... must investigate)

You could. And I believe Big Finish are texting bits of scripts to each other right now so that they can record them and finally release 4th Doctor adventures.

I tried this at a friend's house today and it didn't work, just had the old voice. Frustrating, since I sent a lengthy text to another friend's house a few days ago containing half the lines from the classic Viz strip 'Doctor Poo' (travelling through time and space looking for a place to have a shit). If it wasn't in a Tom Baker voice he will be wondering why I've texted him to simply tell him I need the bog.

Tom Baker now doesn't even have to leave home to make a fortune doing voice-overs, he can just text them. I know lazy actors are often accused of "phoning in their performance", Tom Baker takes it to the next level.

...do you have to sign up for this service or is it just automatic?...

Wake

I don't think it works for all networks. Probably not Virgin (and therefore not Orange either?).

You have to actually choose the BT celebrity version don't you?
I'm guessing it's a different number or something.

Rex Banner

You just send a text message to a landline.

The girlfriend has taken to sending me sexy/romantic messages.

It's quite strange having Tom Baker calling me 'Honey'.

It's quite strange having Tom Baker calling me 'Honey'.

Strange because you enjoy it a little too much, am I right?

Wils

According to today's Popbitch, Tom's been dropped from this now. No idea why, though.

paulvonscott

It's ending to be replaced with two services so you can choose to have your messages read out by a male or female voice.

Not sure what that says about Tom Baker, but I think that was always just a promotional thing.

Noooo!!!

It was great having Tom tell me that my broadband service was up and running!

DavidXBrunt

He made a point in the promotional interviews that reduced Judy Finnegan to tears of laughter and had Des O'Conner panicking that it was a strictly limited time that his voice was being used.
