"because when you're smoking, it makes it easier to chat up girls because you can ask them for a light, and vice versa." - which is kind of pathetic.

I reckon this is what that survey was suggesting. Also the whole conversation ice breaker about being forced to stand outside, second class citizens, shared laugh, suggestive banter, shared taxi, grunt, grunt, baby, baby, etc etc

And littering is fine I suppose?!?!

Well, if done by a swell kitten like Miss Teenage America, it sure is.

That reads like a Dan Clowes story.  Genius.

In Norway (a country full of nicotine fiends) they made the same move a year or so ago.  I really didn't think this would be accepted very well, but it seems there's been very little hassle, and everybody huddles outside in shitty weather as if it's perfectly normal.  It makes a huge difference to a night out, as a million smokers in small bars meant that your eyes tended to implode after about half an hour.  It was like Nu-Earth, without the Norts.

"Recent surveys found people congregate in the smoking areas because it's the best place to chat someone up!"

Yes, but they still reek of baccy, which a great many non-smokers find a turn-off - suggesting that it's people who already smoke who actually go to the smoking areas to chat someone up.  Providing, of course, that they're being honest about that being the reason to go to the smoking area in the first place.  Most smokers I know are usually ashamed of it and come up with ridiculous excuses for smoking in the first place - all completely lost on me, as I just assume it's an addiction and leave it at that.
About the only thing that does get my goat is pregnant women who smoke, mainly because there's no sensible reason I can claim to interfere in their lives and their decisions where an unborn child is concerned.  It does annoy me to see, though.

Income Tax.. I see your point.

Though at the moment I work part time for three different employers, all in education (HE, FE, alternative curriculum, adult vocational etc.) and sometimes struggle to make ends meet because of the amount of tax I pay on incomes two and three just because of the Government's policy on having more than one job..

I really should give up the tabs- that'd save me a few quid ;)
Obviously you're not a golfer.
