Marbles

Every Monday in The Times 'The Game' football section they do a small piece called 'Toon Heroes' which looks at the career of a comic book sporting hero (seems to be a 50's or 60's supporting character from Roy Of The Rovers most weeks).
Anyone know if there is a full list of whose who've been covered so far & who is writing the column ??

Long shot I know!

Ok answered my own question - its on the Times website. How 'bout reprinting the lot (with artwork) in the Meg (or in the 2006 World Cup footy Extreme Edition idea) e.g.

No. 24 'Blackie' Gray

ROY OF THE ROVERS

"Blackie" Gray joined Melchester Rovers at the same time as Roy Race in 1954 and the two became a force together on and off the field. An inside forward, Blackie played for England, but after a serious road accident in 1991 he struggled to regain his former glories and was often kept out of the Rovers team by his son, Mark "Cracker" Gray. Blackie became Rovers' player-manager in 1983 after Roy moved to Walford Rovers but stood down on the great man' s return. He took over again but left the club a broken man after an FA inquiry into match-fixing in 1994

No. 21 Gordon Stewart

THE SAFEST HANDS IN SOCCER
You could build a brick wall between the goalposts or call on Stewart, it amounted to the same thing. The goalkeeper, who first appeared in Roy of the Rovers in 1977, was simply the best and on his day there was no shot or header that could beat Tynefield City's trusty custodian. If he needed a bit of good fortune he could rely on mascot Fred, a toy skeleton kept in his glove bag. However, the goalkeeper's luck ran out in 1983 when Stewart was killed in an air crash off the coast of Brazil — his headstone read simply "He Gave Pleasure To Many".
