Why make it?

Just read on the US Sci-Fi channel website that two new Nightmare on Elm Street films have been commissioned. The first is a prequel, about the original killings I guess. The second is Freddy vs Jason vs Michael Myers

Why make it? How can stuff like this get commissioned but not anything worthwhile (eg the Halo Jones movie)

Because, as Wes Craven revealed in Wes Craven's New Nightmare, Freddy isn't constantly contained in sequels, he appears in real life.

Ash isn't going to appear in any of the films because Sam Raimi thinks its a big pile of wank, and he still holds the rights to all Evil Dead stuff.

While I get your point, I'm not that mad about things like this getting commissioned. I quite enjoy this kind of trash.
It's the pointless remakes that get me. I don't mind the concept of remakes per se (some have been very good) but just a look at releases this year....

The Hitcher. Barely 20 years old, remade with the protaganist as a woman (no idea why) and by a man whose previous credits are basically music videos. Bad ones.

The Omen 666: I watched the Omen the other month. Still creepy as hell. Why??

I'd quite like to complete my collection of Blake's 7, Survivors and Doctor Who on DVD so if anyones got any lying around please send them to me. In fact anything will do as long as it's got a decent resale value on ebay.

I was (un)lucky enough to win a DEVIL'S REJECTS goody bag from Tharg recently (fake blood, tee-shirt, baseball cap, bag, plastic(!) shot glasses and, oh, the film on DVDVD that I can't be bothered to watch.
